GameStop’s CFO has resigned because of course he did

· February 23, 2021 ·

GameStop CFO Jim Bell has resigned , and will be leaving the video game retailer for good on March 26th. That’s just over a month from now. GameStop also announced a “succession plan,” just in case it can’t immediately find anyone suitable to accelerate a mall-based video game retailer’s transformation into the post-pandemic future. We can only speculate on the reasons for his departure, but let’s just come out and say what everyone is thinking: STONKS! It’s not like he had a falling-out with the company: “Mr. Bell’s resignation was not because of any disagreement with the Company on any matter relating to the Company’s operations, policies or practices, including accounting principles and practices,” writes GameStop in this SEC filing. What I want to know: did the Tendieman come for Bell? If not, perhaps he can still get a producer credit on the umpteen GameStock films , or a nice book deal. … [Read more...] about GameStop’s CFO has resigned because of course he did

Ancient Egypt’s Mona Lisa? An elaborately drawn extinct goose, of course

· February 24, 2021 ·

Nearly five millennia ago, an artist inked an incredibly detailed painting of geese in the tomb of an Egyptian vizier and his wife. This "Mona Lisa" of ancient Egypt may depict a previously unknown and now extinct species of goose, a new analysis suggests. The 4,600-year-old painting, known as "Meidum Geese," was discovered in the 1800s in the tomb of Nefermaat, a vizier, or the highest-ranking official who served the pharaoh (and was likely also his son) and his wife Itet in Meidum, an archaeological site in lower Egypt, according to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. The painting was discovered in the Chapel of Itet inside the tomb. The vivid painting, which was once part of a larger tableau that also depicted men trapping birds in a net as offerings for the tomb owner, has since been described as "Egypt's Mona Lisa," study author Anthony Romilio, a technical assistant at The University of Queensland's school of chemistry and molecular biosciences in … [Read more...] about Ancient Egypt’s Mona Lisa? Conservatives aren’t more fearful than liberals, study finds

· February 24, 2021 ·

Are conservatives more afraid of threats than liberals? Political psychologists have long found evidence that people on the right are more sensitive to scary stuff, on average, than people on the left, a basic psychological difference thought to drive some political disagreements between the two groups. But new research suggests that's overly simplistic. In a new international study, conservatives and liberals both responded to threats —— but they responded more strongly to different kinds of threats. And to make matters more complex, those responses don't always map nicely onto the political divide, or stay consistent from nation to nation. Related: Why did the Democratic and Republican parties switch platforms? "This link between threat and conservative beliefs, or conservative ideology, is just not simple," said study leader Mark Brandt, a psychology professor at Tilburg University in the Netherlands. "It depends on a lot of different things. It depends on the type … [Read more...] about Conservatives aren’t more fearful than liberals, study finds

Amazon Echo Show 10 (3rd Gen) review: Move over Nest Hub Max

Jeramy Johnson 24 Feb 2021 0 Source: Jeramy Johnson / Android Central The smart speaker market has grown quite a bit since Amazon introduced the first Echo in late 2014. However, after introducing the first Echo Show in 2017, the evolution of smart screened devices hasn't progressed nearly so quickly. There have mostly been incremental updates to the devices put out by Amazon, Google, and others like Lenovo, adding bigger screens and (marginally) better speakers, but nothing has really moved the category forward. As it has done several times before, Amazon is poised to usher in the next paradigm shift in smart speaker tech with its latest Echo device, the Echo Show 10 (3rd Gen). I've had the pleasure of using just about every Alexa and Google Assistant-enabled smart speaker over the past few years, so I feel … [Read more...] about Amazon Echo Show 10 (3rd Gen) review: Move over Nest Hub Max
