Wear OS has been ignored by Google for some time and when the company decided to move the Play Store and most settings to just the watch I gave up on it as a wearable platform. The Samsung Galaxy Watch remains the best smartwatch for Android smartphone users, but it's also priced at $330. If you want to explore smartwatches, don't mind charging your watch daily, and are OK with missing data from time-to-time then the $180 TicWatch S2 is worth considering.A couple of years ago I tested the TicWatch 2 that actually ran Android with a Ticwear OS layer and it was pretty fantastic. The new TicWatch S2 is a Google Wear OS device so it comes with all of the pros and cons of this forgotten wearable operating system.Mobvoi has done a decent job with Wear OS, but I haven't seen very consistent performance and cannot recommend this watch to anyone serious about a smartwatch or interested in tracking daily activity. The TicWatch E2 is priced $20 less and has a slightly less bulky form factor … [Read more...] about TicWatch S2 review: Google Wear OS is pretty terrible and Mobvoi doesn’t help the cause with this $180 smartwatch

Congratulations OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T owners. With Oxygen OS 5.0.3 rolling out starting yesterday, Face Unlock will soon be added to your phone. Originally found on the OnePlus 5T, OnePlus added the facial recognition system to the OnePlus 5 via a software update. At the time that OnePlus was announcing its plans to add it to the OnePlus 5 back in December, co-founder Carl Pei (and owner of one of the best Twitter handles, @getpeid), polled OnePlus 3/3T owners whether they wanted Face Unlock on their phones. The response was an overwhelming "Yes!"While Face Unlock is faster than Face ID on the Apple iPhone X, it is not as secure. Rather than creating a 3D map of a face, which Apple does with its expensive TrueDepth Camera, the OnePlus system measures identifying marks on a OnePlus owner's face, such as the space between his/her eyes and the space between the nose and lip. This allows older models like the OnePlus 3/3T to add the feature via a simple software update. After five … [Read more...] about Oxygen OS 5.0.3 update adds FaceUnlock to OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T
By Mikey Campbell Tuesday, May 15, 2018, 03:46 pm PT (06:46 pm ET) U.S. officials have identified a primary suspect in the so-called "Vault 7" leak that released a massive cache of information detailing the Central Intelligence Agency's cyber tools, including software exploits targeting iPhone and Mac devices. Citing newly unearthed court documents, The Washington Post reports government authorities believe Joshua Adam Schulte provided WikiLeaks with top-secret CIA cyberweapons and espionage tools and techniques. Schulte, who left the CIA for a private sector job in 2016, worked in the agency's Engineering Development Group and was responsible for crafting code used to break into computers, smartphones and other devices owned by terrorists and other targets. The code archive was obtained by WikiLeaks and subsequently made public … [Read more...] about Suspect identified in CIA ‘Vault 7’ leak that revealed iOS and Mac exploits
