Menulog moves to give couriers access to fair pay and job entitlements

· April 13, 2021 ·

Food delivery company Menulog has announced it plans to give its couriers access to insurance cover, fair pay, leave entitlements, and superannuation. The program is part of the company's plans to shift all its food couriers in Australia from working under a contractor model to an employment model. The company has dubbed this shift as a move to "enhance the life standards of couriers". "Historically, the contractor model was well suited for the Australian market, but as the gig economy continues to evolve, we believe we need to make improvements for couriers that align with our philosophies and values and those of our new European parent group, Just Eat Takeaway.com," Menulog managing director Morten Belling said. "We are committed to the safety of our couriers, providing them with insurance cover and a fair income. While we are compliant with local laws, we believe there is more we can do for couriers, to better meet our evolved values and moral standards. "We owe it to our … [Read more...] about Menulog moves to give couriers access to fair pay and job entitlements

Domino’s teams up with Nuro for driverless pizza delivery in Houston

· June 17, 2019 ·

Nuro, the self-driving delivery startup, is teaming up with Domino’s to launch a pilot for driverless pizza delivery in Houston, Texas, the companies announced Monday. Starting later this year, Domino’s will use Nuro’s driverless fleet of custom-built robot cars to deliver pizza to select Houston residents who place orders online. Nuro, which was founded by two ex-members of Google’s pioneering self-driving team , has been using its fleet of R1 robot cars to deliver groceries to residents of Scottsdale, Arizona, and more recently, Houston . If the pilot with Domino’s goes well, it’s safe to assume Nuro will look to expand it to other markets as well. Nuro has been ramping up its activities in recent months since receiving a $1 billion investment from Japanese tech company SoftBank. The funding round was a huge vote of confidence for one of the lesser known startups working on self-driving technology. Formed in 2016, Nuro has set itself apart by focusing on food delivery … [Read more...] about Domino’s teams up with Nuro for driverless pizza delivery in Houston

Don’t buy this PS5 bundle today – wait for the next restock update

· April 11, 2021 ·

The hard-to-buy PS5 seems to be in stock today at certain online stores in the US, and while we do highly recommend bundles from GameStop, Antonline and Costco (resellers can't profit off of readily available games and accessories so availability lasts longer), you should stay away from overpriced PS5 options as well as scams in which you'll never get the console. No one on social media will sell you a console. Real PS5 restock alerts: Follow @mattswider, our PS5 restock Twitter tracker for notifications when the next PS5 restock is live at all US stores. It's the fastest way to get real-time updates. Do not buy directly off Twitter users – which are all scams – only to the websites Matt points you to. The biggest offender with the household name is Sears , which enables third-party resellers to charge $1,099 or more for a a variety of PS5 bundles. We've seen good bundles go for as much as $800 with three games included, an extra controller and the PS5 camera, but … [Read more...] about Don’t buy this PS5 bundle today – wait for the next restock update

Billions of smartphone owners will soon be authorising payments using facial recognition

· April 12, 2021 ·

The next few years will see billions of users regularly using facial recognition technology to secure payments made through their smartphone, tablets or smartwatches, according to new analysis carried out by Juniper Research. Smartphone owners are already used to staring at their screens to safely unlock their devices without having to dial in a secret code; now, facial recognition will increasingly be deployed to verify the identity of a user making a payment with their handset, whether that's via an app or directly in-store, in wallet mode.
