apple: Here’s what Apple CEO Tim Cook has to say on whether the company will lay off employees or not

February 3, 2023 by www.gadgetsnow.com Leave a Comment

Amazon has done it. So have Google, Microsoft, Intel, Twitter, Meta, Spotify and many others. You name it and almost every big tech company has done it, except one: Apple . We are talking about layoffs across the world. Apple, so far, has shied from laying off employees, even though it reported quarterly results which weren’t that great. Apple CEO Tim Cook was asked about the company taking the hard decision of laying off employees. In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Cook said, “I view layoffs as a last resort kind of thing,” before adding, “You can never say never.” Managing and cutting costs Cook further said that Apple wants to manage costs “other ways to the degree that we can.” He also said that Apple recognises that the current environment is tough and the company is cutting costs as well. “We’re cutting hiring, we’re being very prudent and deliberate on people that we hire,” Cook said. Cook hasn’t really completely ruled out layoffs at … [Read more...] about apple: Here’s what Apple CEO Tim Cook has to say on whether the company will lay off employees or not

Nvidia GPUs hit by mysterious Discord bug that slows frame rates

February 1, 2023 by www.techradar.com Leave a Comment

Audio player loading… Nvidia GPUs are being messed with by the popular group chat app Discord , with gamers seeing the clock speeds of their graphics card memory running at reduced frequencies. Tom’s Hardware (opens in new tab) reports that the latest update for Discord is throttling the clock speed of the card’s video RAM, meaning slower overall performance when the app is running in the background and you’re playing a game (or doing anything graphics-related for that matter). Nvidia highlighted the problem itself – AMD or Intel graphics cards aren’t affected – but the company didn’t say which models are hit by the slowdown, which leads us to assume that it’s likely all models. The only commonality between affected graphics cards is that the system they’re in is running the latest version of Discord (Nvidia doesn’t mention if the graphics driver version has any bearing on the situation, either). Nvidia is going to make an update available for its … [Read more...] about Nvidia GPUs hit by mysterious Discord bug that slows frame rates

Nvidia RTX 4060 and 4050 GPUs spotted – but don’t get your hopes up too much

January 30, 2023 by www.techradar.com Leave a Comment

Audio player loading… Nvidia’s RTX 4060 and 4050 desktop graphics cards – the Lovelace GPUs which are of keenest interest to most people given their (hopefully) affordable nature – could arrive sooner than expected. Tom’s Hardware (opens in new tab) spotted that RTX 4060 and 4050 models from Shangke Group – a Chinese firm that makes graphics cards, and other components too – have been filed with the EEC (Eurasian Economic Commission). Typically, products are filed with the EEC when their release is nearing, so this is a hint that the RTX 4060 and 4050 are perhaps closer to launch than the rumor mill has otherwise indicated. Then again, we have to be very cautious around presuming too much from EEC filings, as they can be carried out early in some cases, or they can even be performed speculatively for placeholder products. In short, don’t set too much store in these listings, but they are nonetheless a tantalizing hint that we could see the RTX 4060 … [Read more...] about Nvidia RTX 4060 and 4050 GPUs spotted – but don’t get your hopes up too much

Audio player loading… Nvidia’s RTX 4090 Ti, the purportedly incoming refresh of the current Lovelace flagship, has been the subject of a fresh leak – and this supercharged RTX 4090 could be coming alongside a new RTX Titan. The latest on the RTX 4090 Ti graphics card comes from well-known leaker Kopite7kimi on Twitter, as flagged up by VideoCardz (opens in new tab) . RTX 4090 TiPG136/139-SKU31018176FP3296M L224Gbps 24G GDDR6Xtotal board power ~600W January 30, 2023 See more The leaker believes the current plan is for the revamped flagship GPU to run with 18,176 CUDA Cores, along with 24GB of GDDR6X VRAM (running at 24Gbps), and a total board power usage of around 600W. The 4090 Ti is also set to use the same board as the RTX 4090, which would be no great surprise. This combines with another rumor from the weekend in which a second leaker on Twitter, MEGAsizeGPU (opens in new tab) , posted what is supposedly an image of the RTX Titan, which … [Read more...] about Nvidia RTX 4090 Ti GPU specs leaked – and it could come alongside an RTX Titan

February 3, 2023 by www.gadgetsnow.com Leave a Comment

Google CEO Sundar Pichai recently announced that the company would cut 12,000 jobs or 6% of its global workforce as it braces to face “difficult economic cycles.” As a result of this, a number of departments, including FuchsiaOS, and Area 120, among others, will see a thinner workforce. Now a report has claimed a group of employees staged protests in the US this week at the company’s headquarters in California and New York. As per a report by Bloomberg, a group of employees protested outside the company’s offices in Mountain View, California, on Wednesday in a bid to attract attention to labour conditions for sub-contracted workers and to support thousands of their recently laid-off co-workers. The second rally took place near Google's corporate offices in New York City on Thursday. In this demonstration, nearly 50 Google employees protested shortly after its parent company Alphabet announced fourth-quarter profits of $13.6 billion.
