Google today shared details of Google Play’s efforts to protect Android users with its teams of engineers, policy experts, product managers, and operations professionals that monitor the store for misleading, inappropriate, or harmful apps. In 2017, Google removed more than 700,000 apps that violated Google Play’s policies, or 70 percent more apps than the year before. Google does not share total Google Play app numbers anymore, so we have to rely on third-party estimates to put this 70 percent figure into perspective. Statista pegs the total number of apps on Google Play at 2.6 million in December 2016 and 3.5 million in December 2017, a 35 percent growth. How many of those were bad apps, however, is anyone’s guess. All we know is that the number of bad apps removed grew faster than the total number of apps in the store, which makes sense if you take into account the next statistic Google revealed today: 99 percent of apps with abusive content were identified and … [Read more...] about Google Play removed 700,000 bad apps in 2017, 70% more than in 2016

Their music library is pretty good for me as of the recent update, but I definitely wouldn't mind if they updated it again. posted on 29 Nov 2012, 20:47 13 2. Just in case you were looking for a break from the BlackBerry madness that has been happening today, we've got some interesting news in regards to the Google Play Store, and the iTunes App Store. As any Android user will tell you, one of the biggest annoyances is that despite the platform having a huge lead in market share worldwide , developers still build for iOS first. Well, that may be about to change because it looks like the Play Store revenue could surpass the iTunes App Store by the end of 2013 or early 2014. We had seen projections that said Google Play app revenues were growing much faster than Apple 's App Store, and saw some numbers proving that in November, but Google Play doesn't seem to be slowing down too much. To be fair, the iTunes App Store is still the top of the heap, pulling in about 350% more in total revenue in Q4 of 2012 than Google Play did. But, Google Play is growing much faster with a 200% jump in revenue in Q4, while iTunes only managed … [Read more...] about Google Play app revenue could surpass iTunes App Store by the end of 2013, will developers follow?
Every month or so there is a new story that comes out about how much malware can be found on Android or in the Google Play Store. Unfortunately, most of the reports don't include all of the information that you'd expect. Stories about malware on devices often don't mention what harm is actually caused, nor that most malware comes from sideloading, or devices without the Google Play Store. And, stories about malware in Google Play don't tend to include stats on how quickly Google removes malicious apps. Google wants to tell its side of the story about malware, and not surprisingly, Google has a much different story to tell. According to Google’s Android Security chief Adrian Ludwig, there are multiple layers of Android security at work that end up with just .001% of malware even being able to attempt to evade security and cause problems. Of course, it should be noted that Google's numbers only include devices that have Google Play Services, and do not include … [Read more...] about Google says less than .001% of Android malware evades Google Play security to cause harm

Google & Android are #1 in the mobile OS world & pretty soon will be #1 in apps. They are now equal with Apple & will pass them officially in apps sooner than later. This time next year Android will be number one in tablets also thanks to the Nexus 7 & 10. posted on 30 Oct 2012, 08:15 7 5. wendygarett (unregistered) I dont wanna to throw wet blanket, but You know what? most google play apps are so similar, some apps are even total clone each other, so many talking cat and dog, and too much angry bird clone tho...
