The Nintendo Switch is the first video game console I've loved as an object on its own terms. I recognize how ridiculous this sounds.Did I love the Super Nintendo? Yeah kinda. Did I love the Xbox 360 or the PlayStation? I guess. More than anything, I loved the games I played on those consoles. Not the console itself. The Nintendo Switch is different. Sure, the Switch is a conduit to brilliant video game experiences, but it's more than that. The Switch is an experience in and of itself. It's an object that's transformed the ways you could interact with home consoles. It's different.I'm a time-poor parent of two, and the Switch is the console that gave me back my video games. I can play on the bus, on the train, in bed before I sleep. This is traditional handheld fare but, again, the Switch is different. It bends to my will. On the few occasions I do have time to sit on the couch and play video games the old-fashioned way, the Nintendo Switch pours itself into the gaps of my life … [Read more...] about Hello, Nintendo Switch Lite. Nintendo Switch controllers, namely the Joy-Cons and the Pro controller, will soon be supported by Google Chrome, showcasing Google’s future plans for gaming. Chrome’s support is possible through the standard Gamepad API, which means that developers will be able to easily enable Nintendo Switch controllers in their games and apps. There is no definite timeline yet as to when the support for … [Read more...] about Nintendo Switch controllers will soon be compatible with Google Chrome
Despite the Nintendo Switch’s portability and meteoric popularity, Nintendo isn’t quite ready to let its traditional handheld console market go the way of the Western. Since the Switch’s release, the 3DS has received Metroid: Samus Returns, WarioWare Gold, Luigi’s Mansion, Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser’s Minions, and Hey! Pikmin. Still, it was a bit surprising when Nintendo announced a new addition to the Nintendo 3DS “family” of consoles — the New Nintendo 2DS XL, just months after the Switch launched. Yet, with Nintendo’s continued support of 3DS platforms and the already stellar back catalogue of available games, it isn’t too late to jump in on the fun by picking up a dedicated handheld system. With OG Nintendo 3DS models long phased out, and the smaller, New Nintendo 3DS ceasing production, you’re down to three options: New Nintendo 2DS XL, New Nintendo … [Read more...] about Nintendo 2DS XL vs. Nintendo 3DS XL: Which handheld reigns supreme?
