Where to find a PS5: What you need to know about getting Sony’s new gaming console
Even though Sony launched the PlayStation 5 five months ago, it's still extremely hard for anyone to get their hands on one. The pandemic and the global chip shortage have definitely contributed to this lack of inventory, but demand for the PS5 has also been sky high. In fact, it was recently named the fastest-selling console in US history . That means that if you've been trying -- and failing -- to buy a PS5, you're not alone. there is hope on the horizon, though. Retailers are restocking the PS5 on a fairly consistent basis. Granted, it sells out almost immediately, but any progress is good progress. As of April 12, both versions of the PS5 -- the $500 model with Blu-ray and the less expensive $400 digital-only edition with no optical drive -- are out of stock at every major retailer, including Target, Best Buy, Amazon, GameStop and Walmart, but that shouldn't stop you from trying to find one. If you're willing to shell out far more than the sticker price, … [Read more...] about Where to find a PS5: What you need to know about getting Sony’s new gaming console
PS5 and Xbox Series X games with 120fps support
One of the best things about the next-gen consoles is that PS5 and Xbox Series X games with 120fps support are becoming increasingly common. We’ve previously been stuck in the doldrums of running games at a treacle-like 30fps on console, but with higher framerates now becoming more accessible, gamers can enjoy the benefits of reduced input latency, a smoother image, and significantly more responsive gameplay. 120fps support used to be exclusively reserved for PC gamers with powerful enough hardware, but PS5, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S owners with a 120Hz, HDMI 2.1 compatible display can hit the lofty heights of 4K / 120fps. Those who have 120Hz, HDMI 2.0 displays can also take advantage of 120fps, but only at 1080p (and sometimes 1440p). Microsoft’s new FPS Boost mode for Xbox Series X and S can double frame rates in games
Microsoft is launching a new FPS Boost feature for its latest Xbox Series X and Series S consoles that’s designed to make existing games run better. While Microsoft has previously focused on improving frame rates with backward compatibility for its latest Xbox consoles, FPS Boost is specifically designed to improve older games without developers having to put in any additional work. Some games will nearly double frame rates, and Microsoft says it has seen a few instances where backward-compatible titles even quadruple in frame rates. The first games to support FPS Boost are Far Cry 4 , New Super Lucky’s Tale , Sniper Elite 4 , UFC 4 , and Watch Dogs 2. The improvements vary across games, with New Super Lucky’s Tale now running at up to 120fps, and UFC 4 includes 60fps performance on the Xbox Series S specifically. Games that work with FPS Boost will include a new indicator when you hit the Xbox button on a controller, just like how Quick Resume or auto HDR indicators … [Read more...] about Microsoft’s new FPS Boost mode for Xbox Series X and S can double frame rates in games
Some Bethesda games now on Xbox Game Pass get frame rate boosts on Xbox Series X / S
Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass platform received a huge boost with the addition of 20 new Bethesda Softworks titles across Xbox consoles, PC, and xCloud last week. And now, a quarter of those games are getting performance boosts on the next-gen Xbox consoles in a new update. The performance gains are in frame rate, thanks to an appropriately named new feature Microsoft revealed last month called FPS Boost , which can roughly double frame rates of older games using new Xbox hardware without requiring developers to do any manual work. The games seeing performance boosts with frame rate jumps up to 60 frames per second include Arkane Studios’ Dishonored: Definitive Edition and Prey and Bethesda Game Studios’ The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition , Fallout 4 , and Fallout 76. Microsoft announced on March 15th that the updates are going out that day. The announcement was initially made during a YouTube live stream on March 12th between Xbox Live programming … [Read more...] about Some Bethesda games now on Xbox Game Pass get frame rate boosts on Xbox Series X / S
