Trump, provided almost no financial help. “I built what I built myself,” the president has repeatedly said. But an investigation by The New York Times has revealed that Donald Trump received the equivalent today of at least $413 million from his father’s real estate empire. What’s more, much of this money came to Trump through dubious tax schemes he participated in during the 1990s, including instances of outright fraud, The Times found. In all, the president’s parents transferred well over $1 billion in wealth to their children, which could have produced a tax bill of … [Read more...] about 11 takeaways from The New York Times’ investigation into Trump’s taxes

‘The New Normal’: Establishment Media Emerges as ‘Enforcement Arm’ of Democrats to Punish Trump Donors
The establishment media is targeting donors to President Donald Trump’s campaign and various organizations and Super PACs supporting the president. From pieces suggesting they are involved in wrongdoing they had no hand in, to allegations of them funneling money around in an untoward way, donors to right-wing causes in the era of Trump are being hit with some heavy-handed media treatment regardless of the veracity of allegations against them.“The subtle — and sometimes not so subtle — threats and intimidation coming from the left-leaning media have become the new normal,” one Trump donor, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Breitbart News. “If you publicly support President Trump, you’ve got a big red target on your back. The liberal media has become the enforcement arm of the Democrat Party and their job is to scare and silence the president’s supporters.” It’s not abnormal to see media pushing a biased or leftist … [Read more...] about ‘The New Normal’: Establishment Media Emerges as ‘Enforcement Arm’ of Democrats to Punish Trump Donors

Another rise in telco complaints shows ‘struggling’ industry: Comms Alliance
Telco complaints have risen from 8.7 to 9.3 complaints per 10,000 services in operation (SIO) on average, according to the latest quarterly report published by the Australian Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman (TIO) and Communications Alliance, with the increase attributed to the industry changes brought on by the National Broadband Network (NBN). During the quarter to March 2018, Telstra's complaints ratio was 9.5 per 10,000 SIO, up from 9.2 last quarter. Vodafone's ratio rose slightly from 4.9 to 5.0 complaints per 10,000 SIO, while Pivotel's went from 0 to 1. Optus' complaints ratio jumped from 10.6 to 12.1 complaints per 10,000 SIO. "This result highlights that our industry is still struggling with the disruptions caused by the rollout of the NBN and the transformation of communications delivery platforms," Communications Alliance CEO John Stanton said. "Though the numbers are very disappointing, we are continuing our work on customer-centric initiatives with government, … [Read more...] about Another rise in telco complaints shows ‘struggling’ industry: Comms Alliance
A new bill could finally ban predatory inmate phone costs
For nearly two decades, criminal justice reform advocates have been fighting to fix a persistent and egregious flaw in the US prison system: the frequently exorbitant cost of inmate phone calls, which can run up to $17 for a 15-minute local phone call. An Obama-era policy sought to rectify the matter by capping inmate calling fees at as low … [Read more...] about A new bill could finally ban predatory inmate phone costs
