The GT X Experimental features a distinctive new front, which will roll out on all Opel models in the 2020s. Its four doors open fully to 90 degrees, making it easy to access the back seat. The interior looks simple, yet Opel promises that drivers will have the latest technology at their fingertips. This new all-electric compact SUV comes on the heels of Opel's problems sourcing Chevy Bolts for European distribution. The company has been unable to fulfill demand for its Ampera E because GM has been severely limiting its allocations in each market. Opel even increased the price of the Ampera E by $5,500 in Europe last year, as well as asked Norwegian dealers to stop taking orders, but it hasn't solved the company's issues in that regard. … [Read more...] about Opel’s new EV concept is a stylish take on the compact SUV

The Trump administration is considering slapping auto tariffs on imported vehicles and parts. That means consumers in the market for a new car might want to buy those wheels sooner than later, experts say. Depending on the model, prices for some popular vehicles could jump as much as $7,000 if tariffs under consideration are enacted, estimates show. Meanwhile, although it may be months before Mr. Trump decides on if, when and how to impose auto tariffs, prices are still likely to climb soon because of other factors. That's because interest rates for auto loans are rising along with broader U.S. borrowing rates, and a recent dip in sales could force automakers facing higher costs to push up list prices to preserve profit margins. In the short term, the immediate threat seems to have abated after President Trump and European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker on Wednesday said they were working to eliminate all tariffs between the trading partners. But success in hammering … [Read more...] about As auto tariffs loom, is now the time to buy a new car?
source Matthew DeBord/BI The Mazda CX-3 is a subcompact crossover SUV that’s aimed at first-time buyers. These small SUVs are sometimes called “cute-utes.” The CX-3 is an excellent small vehicle and good choice for a first car. We call ’em “cute utes,” and they’re increasingly all the rage. What are they? Subcompact crossover SUVs, the 21st-century version of the “econo-boxes” of the late 20th century – minus the box, but with lots of econo. They’re also fairly adorable, little smushed-down SUVs that don’t resemble that 1990s hatchback, which screamed “college student” or “first job.” Hence the cute before ute. We may be looking at a paradigm shift in the auto industry in the US, as carmakers abandon passengers cars – and small cars in particular, with their skimpy profit margins – and focus on SUVs and crossover. If that’s happening, then car … [Read more...] about I drove a $28,500 Mazda CX-3 to see if the compact SUV is really the perfect first car — here’s the verdict
When Volkswagen first unveiled the diminutive T-Roc SUV, it was believed that it would eventually make its way to the states. That's not the case, but that doesn't mean we've been left high and dry.VW will launch a new compact SUV in the US, China and other markets outside of Europe, Automotive News reports, citing comments from VW brand chief Herbert Diess during a media event in Germany. Across all its intended markets, the goal is to sell 400,000 of these small utility vehicles every year.Internally nicknamed "Volks-SUV," the new compact crossover will start in China, where it will be built in a joint-venture factory. It will be built in additional locations starting in 2020, including Mexico, which will supply the US. Several VW models are already assembled in Mexico, including the Golf.Smaller than the Tiguan, which in the US has ballooned to gain a permanent third row, the "Volks-SUV" will help the automaker compete in a different segment while helping to decrease the brand's … [Read more...] about VW to bring new compact SUV to US and China
Sometimes, you're too excited about something to keep it a secret for any longer. That's apparently the case with Lexus and its new UX crossover, despite its official debut being only a week away.Lexus has seen fit to show off the front end of the new UX before its official debut at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. Traditional Lexus staples are there, namely the grille, which is as large as ever. There are some equally large fog light housings on either side, in addition to some contrasting fender flares surrounded by sharp body lines. It's a looker. The additional teaser video below also gives us a quick look at the car's interior, which features a suitably large infotainment screen (10 or 12 inches, if I had to wager a guess) above a traditional smattering of climate control switches and a standard gear lever. The headlights strike me as the most interesting part of the car, though. Lexus has made itself known over the past few years with some very sharp designs featuring lots of straight … [Read more...] about Here’s your first look at the new Lexus UX compact SUV
