August 5, 2022 by www.techspot.com Leave a Comment

What just happened? ASRock, Asus, Biostar, Gigabyte, and MSI revealed more details about their upcoming high-end X670 and X670E motherboards. Some of the most notable features include PCIe 5.0 and USB4 support, extreme power delivery designs, and wider M.2-25110 slots. However, the companies didn't mention anything about their B650 motherboards, suggesting that these might not launch at the same time as AMD's Ryzen 7000 processors next month. At AMD's latest Meet the Experts webinar , board partners showed off some of the features and designs of their upcoming X670 and X670E motherboards. As a reminder, AMD's AM5 platform will support CPUs with a TDP of up to 170W, 28 PCIe 5.0 lanes (x16 for graphics cards, x8 general purpose lanes used for storage and USB4/Thunderbolt 4 controllers, x4 to connect to the chipset), up to four DisplayPort 2 or HDMI 2.1 outputs, and dual-channel DDR5 memory. ASRock only revealed one new model, the X670E PG Lightning, but also talked about … [Read more...] about AMD board partners unveil more enthusiast AM5 motherboards

AMD confirms Zen 4-powered Ryzen 7000 CPUs are set to arrive by September

August 3, 2022 by www.techspot.com Leave a Comment

Highly anticipated: We knew that AMD's latest Ryzen 7000 processors were arriving soon and now thanks to company boss Dr. Lisa Su that timeframe has been narrowed down: before the end of September, with many reports putting September 15 as the exact launch date. During AMD's second-quarter earnings call, CEO Su confirmed that the highly anticipated Zen 4 CPUs and new AM5 motherboards are set to launch in the current quarter, ending on September 30. "Looking ahead, we're on track to launch our all-new 5nm Ryzen 7000 desktop processors and AM5 platforms later this quarter with leadership performance in gaming and content creation," Su said. Several outlets report that AMD will announce its next-gen processors in the first week of September (or the end of August) before launching them on September 15. The CPUs were previously expected to arrive sometime in the fall, which is between September 22 and December 22, so it seems AMD could launch its chips earlier than … [Read more...] about AMD confirms Zen 4-powered Ryzen 7000 CPUs are set to arrive by September

Modder turns toilet into a fully functional gaming PC

August 1, 2022 by www.techspot.com Leave a Comment

In brief: Smartphones, handheld game consoles and even laptops have made it possible to play high-end games from virtually anywhere. Still, some desire outrageously impractical purpose-built machines to accomplish similar tasks. This is one such story. YouTuber Basically Homeless recently transformed a toilet into a gaming PC, that way he can "just sit there and go potty whilst gaming." He started by cutting a giant hole in a porcelain toilet tank to create a window because what good is a gaming PC (or a toilet) without a window to see what's inside. The tank was divided into two sections, one to house the PC components and the other for the actual toilet components and water. A single exhaust fan was added to the lid of the tank. The gaming PC consists of an Intel Core i7-12700 CPU mounted to an MSI Z690I Unify mini-ITX motherboard alongside 64GB of G.Skill Trident Z5 RAM and an Asus Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 video card. Micro Center, the sponsor of the build, also sent over a … [Read more...] about Modder turns toilet into a fully functional gaming PC

AMD’s Threadripper Pro 5995WX CPU gets overclocked and sets a new Cinebench world record

August 4, 2022 by www.techspot.com Leave a Comment

In a nutshell: One of the world's leading overclockers has used AMD's Ryzen Threadripper Pro 5995WX CPU to set a new record in Cinebench R23. The high-end chip, codenamed Chagall, launched back in March. It features 64 cores / 128 threads with a base clock of 2.7GHz and a boost clock of 4.5GHz. Other noteworthy specs include 4MB of L1 cache, 32MB of L2 cache and 256MB of L3 cache and a healthy 280W TDP. For the record-setting run , Taiwanese overclocker TSAIK paired the processor with an MSI WS WRX80 motherboard and 128GB of Corsair DDR4 memory. A low-end Nvidia GeForce GT 640 graphics card was chosen for the run because a powerful GPU isn't necessary for this type of test. TSAIK was able to achieve a clock speed of 5,150MHz at 1.10 volts running Windows 10. This resulted in a score of 116,142 points in the CPU multi-core test, which was good enough for first place in the category. According to HWbot, the previous high score was 105,170 courtesy of a Ryzen Threadripper … [Read more...] about AMD’s Threadripper Pro 5995WX CPU gets overclocked and sets a new Cinebench world record

Linus Torvalds has kind words for Apple’s M-series silicon

August 2, 2022 by www.techradar.com Leave a Comment

Audio player loading… Linux creator Linus Torvalds has expressed a keen interest in Apple’s in-house M series silicon chips , suggesting that his platform may offer greater capabilities on such arm64 machines. The report, which he explains contains “nothing really interesting,” but rather “a lot of random small stuff,” was written on a silicon device: “I did the release (and am writing this) on an arm64 laptop. It's something I've been waiting for for a _loong_ time, and it's finally reality.” Apple + Linux Torvalds explains that he has previously worked from Apple computers, however “none of [them have] really been usable as a development platform until now.” His first Apple venture was on a PowerPC 970 machine, several years before he gave it another shot on a MacBook Air, which he claims was “the only real thin-and-lite around.” Of course, there is a huge selection of thin and light laptops to choose from in today’s climate, but Apple’s allure … [Read more...] about Linus Torvalds has kind words for Apple’s M-series silicon

Your next ultrafast SSD might be here sooner than you think

Audio player loading… The next generation of storage is about to get its biggest drop yet, the Samsung 990 Pro, at least if a recent regulatory filing is anything to go by. The Samsung 980 Pro remains one of the best SSDs available, but it still relies on the last-gen PCIe 4.0 interface, which limits its transfer speeds and potential capacity. With PCIe 5.0, however, SSD technology is making the same kind of generational leap as we've seen with the best graphics cards and processors in recent years. The filing (opens in new tab) , with the Korean National Radio Research Agency (RRA), was first spotted by Twitter leaker harukaze5719 (opens in new tab) , and it lists two SKUs from Samsung: MZ-V9P2T0 and MZ-V9P1T0. AMD Ryzen 7000 CPUs confirmed to arrive by September

August 3, 2022 by www.techradar.com Leave a Comment

Audio player loading… AMD’s Ryzen 7000 desktop CPUs will be launched before the current quarter is out, meaning September at the latest. As Tom’s Hardware (opens in new tab) reports, CEO Lisa Su confirmed this release timeframe in an earnings call following the revelation of AMD’s Q2 fiscal results. Su said: “Looking ahead, we’re on track to launch our all-new 5nm Ryzen 7000 desktop processors and AM5 platforms later this quarter with leadership performance in gaming and content creation.” Previously, AMD had been telling us to expect its next-gen Zen 4-based processors in the fall, which could theoretically have meant October or November, but this narrows it down to Q3 definitively. The AM5 platform refers to the new chipset for Zen 4 – it’ll require a new socket, and therefore a motherboard upgrade – and the mention of the launch coming later in Q3 means it’ll almost certainly be September. Analysis: Pipping Intel to the launch post Of … [Read more...] about AMD Ryzen 7000 CPUs confirmed to arrive by September

Watch out Intel – AMD Ryzen 7000 CPUs could arrive with plenty of stock in September

August 6, 2022 by www.techradar.com Leave a Comment

Audio player loading… AMD’s Ryzen 7000 processors are set to arrive on September 15, and that’s a hard on-sale date – meaning the CPUs will be on shelves, and in plentiful quantities, if fresh whisperings from the grapevine prove to be correct. This comes from YouTuber Moore’s Law is Dead (opens in new tab) (MLID), who claims that AMD will actually have next-gen Zen 4 CPUs ready to be sent to reviewers on August 10. Take some large helpings of seasoning with that, of course, but the point here is that the processors are ready to go out for folks to start playing with and testing next week. So, prepare yourself for a lot more info and leakage on how Ryzen 7000 chips are shaping up in the very near future. But more to the point, this suggests that AMD could actually launch Zen 4 silicon this month if the company really wanted to, at least in a more limited fashion. But the plan, MLID asserts, is to run production for a while and have a “very big high-volume … [Read more...] about Watch out Intel – AMD Ryzen 7000 CPUs could arrive with plenty of stock in September
