(TSLA) has dealt with its share of scandals and controversies, some of which involved the company’s electric vehicles and many of which did not. The latest problem came to light Monday, when a group of researchers from Belgium’s KU Leuven University reported that they had found a way to easily hack the Tesla Model S’s keyless ignition, Wired reported.Like many modern vehicles, the Model S is unlocked and started by a key fob that sends an encrypted signal to the car to start it, rather than by inserting and turning a key. KU Leuven’s team of hackers spent several months trying to crack the system, and they were successful. After reverse-engineering the keyless entry system, they were able to clone the key fob signal in less than two seconds using around $600 worth of … [Read more...] about Tesla News: Hackers Discover Way To Clone Model S Key Fob?

Tech & Science Tesla Elon Musk Firefighters called to the scene of a fatal Florida collision in May involving a Tesla Model S struggled to extinguish the flames after a battery reignited twice following a high-speed crash, according to a preliminary report released this week by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). An image released by investigators shows the charred remains of the electric car which was "engulfed in flames" after crashing into a concrete wall while traveling south on Seabreeze Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale. According to Tesla data, the vehicle was going 116 miles per hour roughly three seconds before the collision. The driver and the front seat passenger, both 18-years-old males, died at the scene. A passenger in the rear was ejected and transported to hospital, police said in a report at the time. The NTSB said the roadway leading up to the crash location has an advisory speed of 25 mph. Tech & Science Tesla Elon Musk Electric car company Tesla has said it will cooperate with Florida authorities investigating a fatal collision that killed two teenagers this week. The victims, who were travelling in a Model S, were pronounced dead at scene on Tuesday. Fort Lauderdale Police and the National Transportation Safety Board both announced on Wednesday that teams would be probing the deadly incident. Officials believe the vehicle’s speed played a key role in the fatal crash. Tesla has said its autopilot capability, which has been linked to previous incidents, was most likely not switched on at the time of impact. Preliminary investigation revealed that the Tesla car, a gray 2014 model, drove off the roadway and struck a concrete wall while traveling southbound on Seabreeze Boulevard. The vehicle “immediately caught on fire, becoming fully engulfed in flames,” police said. Two victims in the front of the car were killed at the scene, and a … [Read more...] about Tesla Model S Crash That Killed Two Teens in Florida Is Under Investigation
beat out the cheaper Nissan Leaf in electric car sales in the last month of 2010 as each manufacturer struggled to keep up with demand for their newest rides, the Associated Press reported today. The Volt went into production in mid-November and hit dealerships a few weeks later, just in time to compete with the Nissan Leaf. So far it looks like the Volt has won out in terms of sheer numbers — GM sold between 250 and 350 Volts in December. Only around 10 Nissan Leaf cars were actually sold in the past two weeks. There are around 50,000 people on the wait list for the Leaf, but Nissan initially limited rolling out its new electric vehicle line to around 200 cars in December across five states. The Leaf is around $8,000 cheaper than the Chevy Volt. Leaf Supply will continue to be limited well into early 2011, and Nissan has advised dealers to be careful about what kind of orders they sign for the Leaf. Each Nissan Leaf ordered in August was supposed to be built-in Japan … [Read more...] about GM leads Nissan in December electric car sales as supply trickles in
Developers at a company called Bnotions released an Android Wear app, called Tesla Command, which allows the user to remotely send a number of commands to the Tesla Model S electric car. The list of functions is not very long as of yet, but Bnotions says there will be more to come.Right now, the Tesla Command app can lock/unlock the doors, open/close the sunroof, and honk the horn of the car. These are all done via swipe and touch on the smartwatch's screen, so for those of you who were quick to start dreaming about voice-controlling a car – sorry, not yet. But don't get disheartened, future Knight Riders – this app is based on tech, initially developed for Google Glass, which means that voice was always considered a primary option. It's just that app developers are still having trouble gaining access to the voice command module of the Glass platform, thus Bnotions was forced to settle for the watch's touch-screen instead. So, if you own a Tesla Model S and an Android Wear … [Read more...] about Control your Tesla Model S remotely via an Android Wear smartwatch
