Huawei launches gorgeous-looking Mate Xs 2 foldable phone for €1,999

May 18, 2022 by www.techspot.com Leave a Comment

Bottom line: The Huawei Mate Xs 2 features an impressive-looking 120Hz display that can fold outwards. However, this design makes it more susceptible to screen damage than other foldable phones. It unfortunately also misses out on 5G connectivity, something way cheaper phones include. In a livestream today, Huawei announced the global availability of their newest flagship foldable smartphone and a multitude of wearables. The company first launched these devices in China earlier this year, but now they're coming to western markets, starting with Europe. The Mate Xs 2 is Huawei's first new foldable since the P50 Pocket . It packs a massive 7.8-inch OLED screen (2480 x 2200 resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate) that folds outwards, unlike competitors such as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3. When folded up, it reduces to a more narrow 6.5-inch display, allowing for easier one-handed use. The device is powered by Qualcomm's last-gen Snapdragon 888 4G, as Huawei isn't allowed to … [Read more...] about Huawei launches gorgeous-looking Mate Xs 2 foldable phone for €1,999

May 23, 2022 by www.techradar.com Leave a Comment

Audio player loading… You've likely seen that Sony is expanding PS Plus next month, merging the existing service with PS Now. You'll now be able to subscribe to three separate tiers and the highest option, PS Plus Premium, includes PS1, PS2, and PSP re-releases. Now, it's been confirmed that these games will support additional display options. While the PS Plus rebrand doesn't go live until May 24 in Asia, arriving next month for everywhere else, individual games have begun releasing in these territories already. Spotted by a ResetEra user (credit to Push Square ), it's now been confirmed that each PS1 game comes with numerous display options, testing this on Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee. Firstly, this confirms that PS1 games will support their native resolutions, ignoring your TV size. It also allows for 1:1, 4:3 and 16:9, square pixels, and a stretched option called Wide Zoom. Each game also comes with three different visual filters. Aside from 'Default', you've also got … [Read more...] about PS Plus classic games sound much better than we thought

Beginner’s Guide to ExpressVPN: What You Need to Know

May 24, 2022 by www.howtogeek.com Leave a Comment

ExpressVPN is a solid virtual private network and we’ve picked it as the best VPN overall. One of the reasons we like it is because it’s so easy for beginners to come to grips with. Still, in case you’re feeling some first-time jitters, we’ll show you how to get to grips with this excellent VPN service. Signing Up for ExpressVPN To get started with ExpressVPN, you first need to sign up for it. On the ExpressVPN website , click on the button in the center that says “get ExpressVPN” and you’ll come to a page where you can choose from the service’s three plans. As much as we like ExpressVPN, there’s no getting around the fact that it’s quite pricey, so your only real choice is the one-year plan as that takes the most of the sting out. Still, $100 is a lot of money for a VPN. Read our ExpressVPN vs. NordVPN comparison to see how it stacks up to another industry leader. Below the plan selection, you have to enter your email address and pick a payment method. Sadly enough, … [Read more...] about Beginner’s Guide to ExpressVPN: What You Need to Know

Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 12GB Review

January 21, 2022 by www.techspot.com Leave a Comment

Last week Nvidia quietly released a new 12GB variant of the RTX 3080. The card sounds like it's the same as the original 10GB version, but with an extra 2GB of VRAM. And while that's the gist of it, there's a little more to the release. Along with the extra memory, there's a 3% increase in core count and an 8% increase for the ROPs. This sees the 12GB model jump up to a 384-bit wide memory bus for a 20% increase in memory bandwidth, despite the same 19 Gbps GDDR6X memory is being used. The key change is a 20% increase in memory bandwidth and capacity. With all said and done, the 12GB 3080 will land between the original 3080 and 3080 Ti in terms of performance, and we suspect it will often be closer to the 3080 Ti, so a nice little upgrade there. But the pressing issue with the 12GB RTX 3080 is the same problem we face with all graphics cards right now: pricing and availability. Given the performance, it's no surprise to find that the 12GB model is positioned between … [Read more...] about Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 12GB Review

Motorola has dropped a hint about a key Razr 2022 upgrade

May 22, 2022 by www.techradar.com Leave a Comment

Audio player loading… We may have a better idea of what's in store with the Motorola Razr 2022 , the third version of the clamshell foldable that first launched in 2019 – and this latest leak comes straight from one of the executives at Motorola. Qualcomm just unveiled the Snapdragon Gen 8+ Gen 1 mobile processor, and Motorola general manager Shen Jin has posted an image promoting the new chip on Weibo (via Notebookcheck ). According to the post text, there's a hidden Easter egg in the image. Look a little bit closer, and you can make out the shape of a foldable phone down at the bottom of the picture – is this the Easter egg that's being referred to? The implication is that the latest CPU could make its way into the Razr 2022. Chips with everything We wouldn't exactly take this as confirmation right now, even given the quality and standing of the source. The Motorola Razr 2020 , the most recent one we've seen, arrived with a mid-range Snapdragon 765G … [Read more...] about Motorola has dropped a hint about a key Razr 2022 upgrade

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4: what we want to see

May 20, 2022 by www.techradar.com Leave a Comment

Audio player loading… While the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 launch is still likely half a year away, we've got high hopes for the Galaxy Z Flip 3 's successor to be one of the best foldable phones we've tested. Why do we say that? Well, because it has to be: the foldable market is getting increasingly busy, with the Huawei P50 Pocket showing how feature-packed clamshells folds can be, and the Motorola Razr 2022 promising top specs too. For the Galaxy Z Flip 4 to be competitive, it'll need to be a fantastic device. Each new version of this bending Samsung phone comes on leaps and bounds from the last - the original Galaxy Z Flip didn't even have 5G, and the last version came with a big outer screen and a competitive price. So we're hoping the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 comes with even more improvements over its predecessor - in fact, we've written up a list of what we want to see below. On top of that, we've detailed what we know about the device so far, … [Read more...] about Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4: what we want to see

Sony’s classic games blunder: Why PAL isn’t your friend

May 24, 2022 by arstechnica.com Leave a Comment

Further Reading We made a PlayStation Plus explainer that’s better than Sony’s [Updated] Sony's confusing new multi-tiered PlayStation Plus subscription plan has now launched in multiple Asian territories (outside Japan) ahead of a worldwide launch planned for the coming weeks . But users in those regions are finding that some of the classic games on the service are unexpectedly running slower than they remembered. Video Games Chronicle has confirmed that first-party original PlayStation games (i.e., those published by Sony) available on PlayStation Plus in Asia are the European versions designed to run on the PAL video standard . That makes some sense in countries like Indonesia, which natively used that 50 Hz video format during the original PlayStation's heyday. But the PAL versions are also being offered for download in countries like Taiwan, which used the 60 Hz NTSC format of standard-definition TVs in North America and Japan, among other countries. The result is … [Read more...] about Sony’s classic games blunder: Why PAL isn’t your friend

Google brings Street View history to phones, introduces “Street View Studio”

May 24, 2022 by arstechnica.com Leave a Comment

Today is the 15th birthday of Google Maps Street View, Google's project to take ground-level, 360-degree photographs of the entire world. To celebrate, the company is rolling out a few new features. First up, Google is bringing historical Street View data to iOS and Android phones. The feature has long existed on desktop browsers, where you can click into Street View mode and then time travel through Google's image archives. When you tap on a place to see Street View imagery, a "see more dates" button will appear next to the current age of the photo, letting you browse all the photos for that area going back to 2007. Google says the feature will release "starting today on Android and iOS globally," though, like all Google product launches, it will take some time to fully roll out. Further Reading Google Maps “immersive view” is the ultimate graphics mode for Google Maps If you'd like to help Google with its plan to photograph the entire world, the company is … [Read more...] about Google brings Street View history to phones, introduces “Street View Studio”

Motorola Razr 2022: here’s everything we know so far

May 8, 2022 by www.techradar.com Leave a Comment

Audio player loading… The next Moto foldable phone , presumably called the Motorola Razr 2022, is shaping up to be a big reinvention for the family - it's the third-gen version of the phone, following on from the Motorola Razr 2019 and Razr 2020 , but it might be the first really worth paying attention to. Motorola skipped a year in its pattern, with no Razr 2021, which has given the company even more time to create the best foldable it can - leaks also suggest it's going to have some impressive specs. We haven't got solid confirmation that Motorola is working on a third-gen Razr phone, but it seems likely with the annual installments up until now. Especially with the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 slated to launch in late 2021, and the iPhone Flip hoped for in 2022, there's lots of competition for Moto to fight with. We're referring to this phone as the Motorola Razr 2022, as while we originally called it the Razr 2021, that never showed up. Lots of our wish … [Read more...] about Motorola Razr 2022: here’s everything we know so far
