Apple’s Pandemic Boom for iPhone and Mac Sales Hit a Snag
The tech industry was already large before the COVID-19 pandemic began upending lives around the world three years ago. But it continued to grow, as we all became ever more reliant on our smartphones, computers and videoconference calls. Now Apple is the latest tech giant to signal that this period of growth may be coming to an end. The company reported that sales of its most important product, the iPhone, fell more than 8%, to nearly $65.8 billion. The reason, Apple said, included several factors, such as the fluctuating price of the US dollar across the world and especially strong sales of its products in the prior year. But the real crunch came from COVID-19 shutdowns late last year across the Chinese manufacturing centers Apple relies on . The results led to protests in China , and supply shortages for Apple's iPhones, in particular its $999 iPhone 14 Pro series. Apple CEO Tim Cook said many of those manufacturing problems have been resolved, for now. All told, … [Read more...] about Apple’s Pandemic Boom for iPhone and Mac Sales Hit a Snag
Google Fi hit by data breach following T-Mobile hack
Audio player loading… Customers of Google Fi have been notified via email of “suspicious activity” that may have seen some lower-risk data exposed. Somewhat ironically, Google Fi promises to be a “private and secure” phone plan that gives its subscribers access to unlimited data, end-to-end call encryption, VPN access, and more, for $50 per month (for one user). Maybe less secure, though, is its “primary network provider” which informed Google that a “third party system that contains a limited amount of Google Fi customer data” was at risk. The unidentified network provider is likely to be T-Mobile, given that it supports a large portion of the Google Fi network and also experienced a data breach around the same time. TechRadar Pro needs you! (opens in new tab) our survey (opens in new tab) and telling us your opinions and views about the tech industry in 2023. Google isn’t moving Legacy G Suite users again, despite admin console warnings
Grandfathered-in "Legacy G Suite" users got a scare recently when another new "transition" message started popping up in the Google Admin console. "The transition to Google Workspace has started," said the new message that suddenly appeared in people's accounts. This was after Legacy G Suite users went through a contentious transition last year, where Google's opening position involved shutting down their accounts if people didn't start paying, but eventually, it was talked into not doing that. A Google spokesperson tells us the Workspace transition message was "a bug that surfaced an old banner from earlier in the process last year, and our team is working on removing it. More changes are not happening at this time, and those who previously opted-in for personal use are not expected to take any further action." We've received a few questions about this message, and this Reddit post has people wondering what the deal is, but it's just a bug. That's great because Legacy G … [Read more...] about Google isn’t moving Legacy G Suite users again, despite admin console warnings
