A fire at a car valet centre next to the railway line in Chichester sparked an emergency response. West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service was called to Bognor Road, Chichester at 8.40pm yesterday evening following reports of a fire next to the railway line. It is the third fire in recent days, following a tip fire and a fire in Chichester city centre. Two fire engines from Bognor and Chichester were sent to the fire, which was confirmed to be a car valet centre '100 per cent involved in the fire', a single-storey building of 10m by 30m, according to a fire service spokesman. The road was cordoned off when it was suspected that there could be gas cylinders at the site - but it was eventually established that there were none there.Hose reels, jets and breathing apparatus were used to put the fire out.Fire crews left the scene at just before 11.30pm, the spokesman said.Today, investigators will be inspecting the scene to find out the cause of the fire and whether or not it was deliberate. … [Read more...] about Car valet centre in Chichester destroyed in fire

0 Have your say The world’s first engineering test centre aimed at speeding the development of materials and structures for tidal energy and transport is to be built in Fife by a partnership between the University of Edinburgh and Babcock International. The £2.4 million FASTBLADE project, to be based in Rosyth, will carry out large-scale accelerated testing of tidal blades using complex forces simulating real environments, limiting the risks for product developers.Engineering researchers will use an efficient hydraulic technology – developed by university spin-off company Artemis Intelligent Power – which will allow structures to be tested significantly faster and using less energy compared with existing technologies. The system will recover energy between load cycles, reducing the cost of testing. The facility has received £1.4m from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council and £1m from the University of Edinburgh. … [Read more...] about World’s first tidal wave engineering test centre to be built in Rosyth
Halifax test centre is one of the hardest places to pass your driving test in the country, according to the latest data. More details are emerging about Uber’s plan to restart its autonomous-car program. The company suspended operations in March 2018 following a fatal accident involving one of its self-driving vehicles. Testing is scheduled to begin again within weeks, though on a significantly reduced scale, the company told the NY Times Uber said it plans to operate its autonomous cars along a mile-long route between two of its offices in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with the vehicles traveling no faster than 25 mph. In addition, the cars will stay off the road in wet weather and at night. The company will also increase the number of safety personnel inside the vehicle from one to two. Before the March accident in which an Uber test car knocked down and killed 49-year-old Elaine Herzberg as she crossed the street in Tempe, Arizona, Uber was operating its self-driving program in four cities, three in the U.S. and one in Canada. The autonomous cars drove at speeds of up to 55 mph, and also … [Read more...] about Uber is about to restart self-driving car tests but on a reduced scale
