steel: Govt orders steel industry to create time-bound action plan to reduce CO2 emissions

July 4, 2022 by www.gadgetsnow.com Leave a Comment

In line with the government's COP26 commitments, the Ministry of Steel has asked the stakeholders to develop a time-bound action plan to lower emissions in the steel industry. According to a ministry document, the iron and steel industry globally accounts for around 8 per cent of total carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions on an annual basis, whereas in India it contributes to 12 per cent of the total CO2 emissions. Thus, the Indian steel industry needs to reduce its emissions substantially in view of the commitments made at the COP26 climate change conference. India will meet a target of net zero emissions by 2070, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said at the COP26 global climate summit in November 2021. In a meeting held recently, Steel Minister Ram Chandra Prasad Singh "urged the stakeholders to develop a time-bound action plan and make concerted efforts for lowering the emissions from the steel industry in line with the commitments made by the Government in COP26". … [Read more...] about steel: Govt orders steel industry to create time-bound action plan to reduce CO2 emissions

EU To Create Emergency Plan For Russian Energy Cut Off

July 5, 2022 by www.breitbart.com Leave a Comment

The European Commission has vowed to create a new emergency plan for member states to be able to reduce or remove Russian energy products, including pushing for more renewable sources of energy. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced that the Commission was working on a draft of an emergency plan to help European Union countries deal with the fallout of limited Russian energy imports as the EU looks to limit the amount of Russian oil, coal and gas being bought. We are preparing emergency plans for Europe,” von der Leyen stated and added, “Energy prices are high. People — rightly so — expect us to do something about it,” Greek newspaper Ekathimerini reports .  “We need a good, common plan that the energy flows, or the gas flows, where it is needed most,” she added. European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen and Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi were headed to Israel Monday as the EU seeks to wean itself off Russian fossil fuel imports. … [Read more...] about EU To Create Emergency Plan For Russian Energy Cut Off

MEPs Vow to Fight ‘Immoral’ and ‘Dangerous’ EU COVID Pass Extension

June 23, 2022 by www.breitbart.com Leave a Comment

MEPs from across the EU have told Breitbart Europe that they will continue to challenge the EU’s COVID pass regime as it comes up for renewal on Thursday. Members of the European Union’s Parliament (MEPs) have told Breitbart Europe that they will continue to fight against the bloc’s regime of COVID passes as their renewal is voted upon by the European Parliament on Thursday. Having been set to expire at the end of this month, the bloc’s Civil Liberties committee voted last week to see the measures extended for another year, justifying the decision by saying that it was important to have the COVID pass system in place “in case it is needed”. However, several representatives elected to the European Parliament from across the EU have told Breitbart Europe that they vehemently oppose such a renewal, with a number of MEPs saying that the measures represent an unjustifiable intrusion on the rights of ordinary people. ‘Are You Serious?’ Eurocrat Claims Bloc Never Pushed People … [Read more...] about MEPs Vow to Fight ‘Immoral’ and ‘Dangerous’ EU COVID Pass Extension

Broadcom takeover of VMware could be derailed by EU antitrust probe

June 23, 2022 by arstechnica.com Leave a Comment

Broadcom’s $69 billion acquisition of cloud software company VMware is set for a lengthy antitrust investigation in Brussels over regulatory concerns that the deal will harm competition across the global technology industry. Broadcom is already in preliminary discussions with EU officials who will be looking into worries that the merger may lead to abusive behavior, including potential future price rises by the US chipmaker, three people with direct knowledge of the transaction said. Many large acquisitions receive similar interrogation, known in EU circles as a “phase 1” investigation, which typically takes a few months to complete. But those close to the situation suggest that EU authorities plan to push forward with a more detailed “phase 2” investigation, which could take well over a year and may ultimately derail the deal altogether. Nvidia eventually walked away from a proposed $66 billion purchase of chip designer Arm after being subject to a lengthy EU antitrust probe. … [Read more...] about Broadcom takeover of VMware could be derailed by EU antitrust probe

The European Union has extended 'Roam-like-at-home' regulations for telecom providers until 2032, the European Commission announced on Thursday. The scheme allows travellers in the EU and the EEA to call, text and surf abroad without extra charges. "With our roaming regulation we have all benefitted from Roam-like-at-home," EU's top official Margrethe Vestager said in an official statement. "This is a very tangible benefit of our European Single Market. Prolonging these rules will keep inter-operator prices competitive, and allow consumers to continue enjoying free-of-charge roaming services for the next ten years." May 14, 2022 by www.cnet.com Leave a Comment

For the home chef, high-quality knives are the most crucial purchases one can make. (Aside from quality cookware , that is.) Good knives can be expensive, though. Luckily, there's a trick to getting the best value: shop direct-to-consumer knives. If you're still wondering whether or not you should spring for a nice set or improve your current kitchen knives, let me save you some trouble. You should. You may use your Dutch oven , cast-iron skillet or pots and pans often but I can almost guarantee you don't use anything as often as your knives, so definitely find some you really love. Personally, I've found that great kitchen knives not only enhance my abilities as a cook but also make the experience of cooking more enjoyable. All of that inspires me to cook more often, which means saving money and eating better, so the butterfly effect from leveling up your kitchen knives may actually be more significant than you'd think. But deciding that you need good knives is … [Read more...] about Best Direct-to-Consumer Kitchen Knives in 2022: Made In, Material, Brigade and More

Socialist Sri Lanka Announces Its Economy Has ‘Completely Collapsed’

June 22, 2022 by www.breitbart.com Leave a Comment

The prime minister of Sri Lanka, Ranil Wickremesinghe, declared in remarks to the nation’s parliament on Wednesday that its economy had “completely collapsed.” The socialist country is facing the worst economic crisis in its modern history, prompting acute shortages of food, medicine, gasoline, natural gas, and other core goods since March. Lavish spending under the Rajapaksa dynasty’s rule coupled with socialist mismanagement of the economy, a “green” policy that banned chemical fertilizers and made the country reliant on food imports, and trade deals in which Sri Lanka took out predatory loans from China all contributed to the nation’s rapid decline. Wickremesinghe, who became prime minister for a second time after predecessor Mahinda Rajapaksa resigned in May, told parliament that the government has no way of purchasing petroleum fuels (gasoline and diesel) because oil companies and governments do not trust that Sri Lanka will be able to pay. The government of President … [Read more...] about Socialist Sri Lanka Announces Its Economy Has ‘Completely Collapsed’
