Clubhouse CEO says user data was not leaked, contrary to reports

· April 11, 2021 ·

Clubhouse CEO Paul Davison said Sunday that a report claiming personal user data had been leaked was “false.” Cyber News reported a SQL database with users’ IDs, names, usernames, Twitter and Instagram handles and follower counts were posted to an online hacker forum. According to Cyber News, it did not appear that sensitive user information such as credit card numbers were among the leaked info. Clubhouse did not immediately reply to a request for more information from The Verge on Sunday. But Davison said in response to a question during a town hall that the platform had not suffered a data breach. “No, This is misleading and false, it is a clickbait article, we were not hacked. The data referred to was all public profile information from our app. So the answer to that is a definitive ‘no.’” Last week, Cyber News reported that personal data for 500 million LinkedIn users had been scraped and posted online. The Microsoft-owned company said that no private member … [Read more...] about Clubhouse CEO says user data was not leaked, contrary to reports

Live TV stinks. You’re better off with these commercial-free, on-demand services

· April 12, 2021 ·

My ZDNet buddy Steven J. Vaughan-Nichols just published his expert picks for best live-streaming TV services . He looked at AT&T TV , FuboTV , Hulu with Live TV , Philo , Sling TV , and YouTube TV . Each of these services provides some set of channels over broadband for a fixed monthly fee. Some offer DVR capabilities, so you can time-shift shows you like to watch. Steven (and presumably a lot of other folks) like the live TV offerings. ZDNet Recommends The best streaming devices Streaming your favorite shows has never been easier. Read More I am not a fan. I am a former YouTube TV and Sling TV customer because during election years, I like watching live channels to binge watch election returns. I love the charts. I love the graphs. I love the animated winner cards. Because I signed up for YouTube TV a couple of years ago and Sling TV for this last election cycle, I had some time to get to know both of the services. I found them clunky … [Read more...] about Live TV stinks. You’re better off with these commercial-free, on-demand services

How local politics made me turn to YouTube Premium as a last-ditch sanity defense

· October 16, 2020 ·

There's a woman in my area named Deb Peterson (not her real name). She is running for some local office. But this isn't a politics story. It's a mental health story. Deb spent most of August and September running pre-roll ads on my YouTube about how nice she is. She told us, endlessly, about how supportive, friendly, and so very caring she is. Featured These are the terrible passwords that people are still using. Here's how to do better Dear President Biden: Let Chinese phones compete fairly in the US The best printer for your home office The best VPN services: Safe and fast don't come free It's not important to know if she's Democrat or Republican, liberal or conservative. All we need to know is she cares, she cares so much, and she cares in non-interruptible ads before every. Single. Video. Apparently, Deb's caring shtick didn't poll so well, so in October she switched from "I care about you" to "here's why you should hate my opponent." Now, in front … [Read more...] about How local politics made me turn to YouTube Premium as a last-ditch sanity defense
