Rep. Jim Banks (R-IN) said House Republicans are “adamant” about leaving entitlements like Social Security and Medicare untouched as lawmakers battle over the debt ceiling. Biden Administration Defies GOP, Extends COVID Emergencies to May 11

H.R. 382 , also known as the Pandemic is Over Act, would specifically end the public health emergency declared three years ago. The bill, introduced on January 17, 2023, would effectively end the emergency on the date of the enactment. Rep. The plan was revealed in a statement to Congress opposing House Republicans' efforts to end the emergency declarations immediately. Further Reading COVID is still a global health emergency, but end may be near, WHO says “An abrupt end to the emergency declarations would create wide-ranging chaos and uncertainty throughout the health care system—for states, for hospitals and doctors’ offices, and, most importantly, for tens of millions of Americans,” the Office of Management and Budget wrote in a Statement of Administration Policy. The Trump administration declared the two emergencies in 2020—a public health emergency was declared in January, and a national emergency was declared in March. … [Read more...] about Biden to end US COVID-19 emergency declarations on May 11
