The manic state that is at the ancient root of the word "maniac" might result from a screwed up body clock, new findings in mutant rodents suggest. These novel mice could help unearth the roots of bipolar disorder—commonly known as manic-depression—which afflicts more than 1 in 40 adults, or roughly 5.7 million people, in the United States alone. "This should allow us to develop better and more targeted therapies in the future," Colleen McClung, a neurobiologist at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, told LiveScience . Highs and lows Although mania can nowadays innocently refer to any harmless passion, its medical definition and past meaning refer to a severe brain disorder with consequences ranging from hyperactivity and impulsive behavior to grandiose delusions and rage. The excessive excitement associated with mania is often coupled with depression, resulting in alternating states of extreme highs and lows known as bipolar … [Read more...] about Internal Body Clock Linked to Mania in Mice

Swedish Agency Warns of Increased Terrorism Threat
The Swedish Agency for Psychological Defense has warned that Sweden is in the crosshairs of foreign actors who are spreading messages that the country is a legitimate target for terror attacks. Mikael Tofvesson, head of the operations department at the Swedish Agency for Psychological Defense, stated earlier this week that attitudes toward Sweden abroad were becoming more and more aggressive. According to Tofvesson, part of the rise in aggression comes from a social media campaign by Muslims that claimed Swedish social services were kidnapping the children of Muslim families in Sweden, a phenomenon that has been ongoing since late 2021, broadcaster SVT reports . Sweden: Civil Servants Under Threat of Attack Over Muslim ‘Kidnapping’ Allegations https://t.co/g1RT5Z6Nxa — Breitbart London (@BreitbartLondon) November 25, 2022 Another factor listed by Tofvesson was the multi-day violent Easter riots that took place last year in reaction to the burning of copies of … [Read more...] about Swedish Agency Warns of Increased Terrorism Threat
Police Confirm Legitimacy of Islamic State Text Messages to Stockholm Terrorist, Once Dismissed as ‘Fake News’ by Swedish Media
Swedish police have released new information showing Stockholm terrorist Rakhmat Akilov used a private Islamic State chatroom on an encrypted messaging service to seek advice before his attack, after similar chats were dismissed as ‘fake news’ by Swedish media last year. The investigation into the attack has shown that the failed Uzbek asylum seeker had used an encrypted messaging app called Zello to openly seek advice from Islamic State operatives before the Stockholm terror attack , Expressen reports . Investigators say that Akilov wrote to one of the administrators of the Islamic State channel saying: “My master I am in Sweden, I do not have any actions, the gay parade will take place here on May 1st, if I get someone who can coordinate, I’ll do a martyring here, if God wants.” The Swedish security service (Säpo) say that they have tracked down 13 users with suspected Islamic State ties on Zello, Telegram, Whatsapp, and Facebook, who had been in direct contact with … [Read more...] about Police Confirm Legitimacy of Islamic State Text Messages to Stockholm Terrorist, Once Dismissed as ‘Fake News’ by Swedish Media
President Boris Johnson? NYC-Born Ex-UK PM Hints at White House Bid
The New York City-born former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Boris Johnson has said that he would not rule out a potential bid for the White House. Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson, who served as British Prime Minister from 2019 to 2022 before being forced to resign over a series scandals including being fined for hosting a series of parties in Downing Street which violated the very same draconian lockdown measures his own government imposed upon the public during the Chinese coronavirus crisis, is apparently looking for a second act in his political career. While Westminster watchers have long speculated that such a second act would come in the form of an attempt to recapture his previous position as prime minister, Mr Johsnon threw a spanner in the works this week by telling the Spectator magazine: “I don’t rule it out,” in reference to a potential presidential run. The former British prime minister was born in New York City in 1964 while his father, Stanley … [Read more...] about President Boris Johnson? NYC-Born Ex-UK PM Hints at White House Bid
88% of American Parents Prioritize Money over Family for Their Children
American parents prioritize work and money far above marriage and parenthood for their children. A Pew Research Center report asked 3,757 parents of children below the age of 18 about goals for their children. Eighty-eight percent of parents thought an enjoyable career and financial independence was “very” or “extremely” important for their children, whereas only 21 percent thought getting married was important, and 20 percent believed having children was important. “It should trouble all of us that only a minority of parents would also see marriage and family life as central goals, and even more so that nearly 50 percent would say that marriage and parenthood are basically unimportant ,” University of Virginia sociologist Brad Wilcox and Institute for Family Studies editor Alysse ElHage wrote . [Emphasis in original]. "A large majority of American parents are prioritizing work & money for their children over marriage and parenthood." That's a big mistake. … [Read more...] about 88% of American Parents Prioritize Money over Family for Their Children
