Mark Hicks The Detroit News Published 8:56 PM EDT Oct 17, 2018 When he wasn’t serving on the Detroit Police Department or providing high-profile security, Steve Miller loved coaching youth, whipping up mouthwatering entrees and surprising loved ones with his creativity and generosity. The deftness earned him a moniker. “He was a Superman to everybody,” said Rico Williams, a longtime friend. “Steve was a guy who would do anything for you.” Mr. Miller died Friday, Oct. 5, 2018, following complications from a heart condition, relatives said. He was 63. Much of the Detroit native’s life revolved around law enforcement. He spent more than 20 years as a police officer. Starting in patrols with various precincts, Mr. Miller went on to join the DPD Special Crimes section, as well as surveillance, according to his resume and associates. The chief of the local police in the small town of Rodez in south west France was stabbed to death outside the mairie on Thursday. Pascale Filoé, was stabbed three times at around 10am and later died in hospital from his injuries. Filoé was the deputy director general of services at the Town Hall which meant he was in charge of the police municipale in Rodez, a town in the rural Aveyron department of south west France. He was a father of three and according to initial reports was aged in his 50s. A suspect, said to be a 39-year-old man with no fixed abode, was reportedly quickly arrested at the scene without resisting police officers. Reports say he was chased away by an employee at the town hall but ran into a shop where he was arrested. The suspect was known to police and had only recently moved to the Aveyron department. “My wife’s death was horrific and pointless,” the elderly plaintiff said outside a court in southern Germany on Tuesday. The man was speaking during a pause in the trial of two people whose dog mauled his wife to death on the street in Baden-Württemberg last May. The 72-year-old woman was walking down a street in the small town of Sigmaringen when the dog broke free from its collar and launched itself at her. The Kangal, a breed considered dangerous in Germany, pulled the pensioner to the ground before repeatedly biting her head and throat. Although a medic arrived at the scene, he was unable to treat the woman, as the dog continued its attack. Only a bullet from the gun of a police officer put an end to the attack - and the dog’s life. But by then it was too late to save the woman. Prosecutors have charged the animal’s owners with negligent manslaughter, arguing that its living conditions were unsatisfactory.
