Meta created a centralised system to allow users to manage connected experiences like logging in across accounts on Facebook and Instagram . A security researcher has said a bug in this system, called Meta Accounts Center , may have allowed hackers to disable two-factor authentication (2FA) – a way that helps users to keep their social media accounts protected from unauthorised access. Gtm Mänôz, a security researcher from Nepal, said he reported a bug he found in the Meta Accounts Center in September last year. Bug in Meta Accounts Center Mänôz said that he found that Meta did not set up a limit to enter login code it sends via SMS as a part of the two-factor authentication process. As per the researcher, this bug would have allowed a hacker to bypass the authentication protections using brute force attacks. Dwarf Fortress financials mark fairytale ending for indie developer
In a nutshell: Various tech giants like Meta, Google, Amazon, and Apple posted negative quarterly and annual statements this week. Amidst the corporate gloom, it's nice to see financials that tell a hopeful story for a small company, especially one behind a game as popular as Dwarf Fortress. A month after the first commercial release of Dwarf Fortress, the game's developer revealed this week that it earned $7.23 million in sales. According to Bay 12 Games' comparison, the number eclipses returns from the previous four months by two decimal points. In each of the months between September and December 2022, Bay 12 Games brought in around $15,000, most of it likely from Patreon donations. After offering the immensely popular Dwarf Fortress exclusively as freeware for 16 years, the company released the first commercial version on December 6, and a few weeks later posted the astronomical January increase. In a post on the Bay 12 forums, the developers say almost half of the money … [Read more...] about Dwarf Fortress financials mark fairytale ending for indie developer

Apple Watch owners’ next must-have gadget is a sleep-tracking smart Oura Ring
Audio player loading… In a world in which you can get smart versions of almost anything, from speakers and watches to water bottles and running shoes, I find smart rings particularly fascinating. In some ways, they're the perfect wearable – unobtrusive, stylish and able to seamlessly blend with the rest of your outfit. However, they're far too small to pack a screen, so all the data it collects is only available in the corresponding app. Out of all the smart ring offerings available right now, the Oura Ring is the best-known and most adopted, topping our list of the best sleep trackers . The Oura Generation 3 is a solid wellness tracker geared towards monitoring sleep and stress rather than pure fitness, with seven temperature sensors monitoring your 'restorative time', an updated heart rate sensor, and a readiness score just like Garmin or Fitbit. The Oura Ring is a screenless wearable like most other smart rings, a chunky yet pretty ring designed to be worn on the … [Read more...] about Apple Watch owners’ next must-have gadget is a sleep-tracking smart Oura Ring

How to Disable Search In Windows
If you really don’t use Windows Search much, you can disable indexing completely by turning off the Windows Search service. You’ll still be able to search–it will just take longer without an index. RELATED: How to Choose Which Files Windows Search Indexes on Your PC If you’re thinking of disabling Search because it’s slowing things down, we recommend trimming down what files and folders are getting indexed and seeing if that works for you first. And if you’re experiencing crashes or inaccurate searches, try rebuilding your search index . You should also note that other apps–notably Microsoft Outlook–use Windows Search to allow searching within those apps, so you’ll have to do without fast searching in those, as well. That said, if you’re planning on using another search app or you just don’t search often and would rather not have the service running, Windows Search is easy to disable. Hit Start, type “services,” and then click the result. On the … [Read more...] about How to Disable Search In Windows
