Delingpole: Smash Big Tech’s Robber Baron Cartel Now!
The thing that puts me off libertarianism is the “more libertarian than thou” game so many libertarians like to play. “What? You mean you don’t believe that enterprising heroin dealers should be free to ply their wares in kindergartens so as to catch ’em while they’re young? You’re not a real libertarian. You’re a fascist control freak…”All right, I exaggerate. But the latest libertarian test is very real – and is the subject of a big falling out between two National Review writers Victor Davis Hanson and Kevin Williamson. See where you stand. a) Facebook, Google, Twitter etc are the equivalent of 19th Century robber baron monopolies ripe for breaking up under Anti-Trust regulation because of their overmighty power and their iniquitous war on free speech and their outrageous bias against conservatives.b) What are you saying, man? Don’t you see, this is, like, a violation of everything we libertarians … [Read more...] about Delingpole: Smash Big Tech’s Robber Baron Cartel Now!
Peter Thiel’s money talks, but what does he say?
By DAVID STREITFELD The New York Times Fri., March 9, 2018 NEW YORK—Peter Thiel is Silicon Valley’s homegrown Cassandra. He warned for years that the big tech companies were arrogant and clueless and less good for mankind than they believed. Comeuppance, the billionaire investor warned, was coming. Trouble has arrived. Unfortunately for Thiel, the storm is centred on Facebook, whose board he has been a member of practically since its founding. The social network, which billed itself as bringing democracy and enlightenment to the world, was used by the Russians to subvert democracy and sow confusion in the United States. Article Continued Below “The board’s role is to help think about some of the medium- and longer-term problems coming around the corner,” Thiel said. “We … [Read more...] about Peter Thiel’s money talks, but what does he say?

The question now is: Where to? Spencer Platt/Getty Images Following its successful public listing yesterday, the music streaming service Spotify is now worth around $25 billion, making it the largest music company in the world — but when Spotify first débuted, back in 2008, it was reasonable to think it would fail. Headquartered in Sweden, a country whose recording industry had shrunk to a third of its previous size due to piracy, the company was located far from … [Read more...] about Spotify Is, For Now, The World’s Most Valuable Music Company
Once Upon a Time Talks Through its Latest Mystery
The case that Detectives Rogers and Weaver are working on hasn’t been given a whole lot of focus in the last few episodes. While everyone else is out learning new things, progressing the story and forming new relationships, Rogers and Weaver have been sitting in the station, talking. Now, we finally got an episode that focuses almost entirely on there story. And it’s a lot more sitting around the station talking. That’s not to say it doesn’t have some great moments, but it’s a bad sign when the present day scenes have you longing for the flashbacks. These flashbacks concern Hook and Alice, and how he came to be infected by the poison heart curse. This part of the episode is fun, dramatic and twisty. Just what we want from our Disney soap opera. Growing up trapped in a one-room tower isn’t doing great things for Alice’s mood. She’s having nightmares about Gothel killing her father, she’s painting pictures of the ocean and longing to … [Read more...] about Once Upon a Time Talks Through its Latest Mystery
