Gran Turismo 7 update pushes its best cars out of your reach
The latest update for Gran Turismo 7 has arrived, but it hasn't been warmly received by the community. The patch drastically reduces the credit payout of races, requiring longer grinds to unlock the game's top cars – pushing players towards microtransactions. Credits are the basic currency in Gran Turismo 7 , used to purchase new cars, cosmetics, and upgraded components which you can kit out your vehicles with. You can earn them by completing races or, if you’re so inclined, purchase them through microtransactions using real-world cash. This latest update, however, drastically reduces the number of credits earned by completing races. In some cases, by up to as much as a half. As a Reddit thread (opens in new tab) details, races like Fisherman’s Ranch have dropped from paying 65k credits to 30k credits; Goodwood’s payout has fallen from 35k to 12k; and Suzuka Circuit’s has been lowered from 75k to 50k. That pattern can be seen across the board, with players recording nearly … [Read more...] about Gran Turismo 7 update pushes its best cars out of your reach

What’s new, launch date and more
Microsoft announced in 2021 that it will bring 3D avatars to Teams and in October last year, the company opened the Private Preview Mesh avatar. These avatars are aimed at helping people represent themselves in meetings at times when they don’t want to turn their webcam on. The company has now announced that Avatars for Microsoft Teams are beginning to roll out for public preview. “Starting today, you can represent yourself the way you want with customizable avatars and reactions,” the company said in a blog post. Avatars for Microsoft Teams offers an alternative to the current binary option of video or no video,” it noted. Avatars for Teams are meant to give users “that much-needed camera break.” What’s … [Read more...] about teams: Microsoft Teams Avatars are rolling out for public preview: What’s new, launch date and more

Zombies and Prosthetic Limbs? The Many Uses of 3D Scanners
Ever wonder why the zombies in the film "World War Z" appear so lifelike? It's not just makeup — some of them were created with the aid of high-tech scanning technology. The company Artec, based in Luxembourg, develops handheld 3D scanners that have been used for everything from Hollywood special effects to the development of prosthetic limbs. The technology makes it possible to create a digital model of an object in the real world, which can then be manipulated with computer design software, said Leonid Volkov, chief business development officer at Artec Group. [ Gallery: 3D Scans in Hollywood and Hospitals ] If, for instance, a company such as Lucas Films, Disney or Pixar (all Artec customers) is working on new 3D animated movie, and the producers want a glass of water to appear in the animation, "you have just two choices — scan it or draw it from scratch, which is much more expensive and time consuming," Volkov told Live Science. The makers of " World … [Read more...] about Zombies and Prosthetic Limbs? The Many Uses of 3D Scanners
