Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov demanded “effective financial humanitarian support” from the international community for the brutal Taliban regime in remarks on Wednesday. Russia hosted an international conference on Afghanistan that day that included the Taliban as an invited guest. The conference in Moscow included Pakistan, China, Iran, India, and the former Soviet Union states in Central Asia, but not the United States. The Biden State Department on Monday applauded Russia’s “Troika-plus” meetings as an “effective” and “constructive forum,” but said it could not participate in this week’s Moscow summit because it was “logistically difficult” to attend. The State Department did not explain why getting to Moscow is suddenly an insurmountable logistical challenge, having attended a similar conference held in Moscow in March. Lavrov said on Wednesday he regretted the absence of the United States at the meeting. “We are convinced that it is … [Read more...] about Russia Demands International Aid for the Taliban
Google was thrown into turmoil last night after the company fired James Damore, author of a manifesto defending viewpoint diversity and a fact-based approach to the alleged gender gap in tech. In exclusive interviews with Breitbart News, more Google employees are now speaking out in support of the manifesto. Damore’s ten-page manifesto, which was met by an immediate backlash, described a climate of fear, in which employees who challenge prevailing leftist narratives at the company are faced with immediate threats to their career. Damore’s own experience appears to confirm this. Breitbart News is exclusively publishing a series of interviews with current and former Google employees who contacted us in the wake of the manifesto’s publication. The interview series, entitled “Rebels of Google,” will be published in full over the coming days. Because every employee who spoke to us fears for their job if their identities were made public, we have provided aliases in place of … [Read more...] about Former Google Employee: ‘There Are Efforts to Demote Anything Non-PC from Search Results’

Via the WSJ (paywalled) : Days after the Trump administration instituted a controversial travel ban in January 2017, Google employees discussed how they could tweak the company’s search-related functions to show users how to contribute to pro-immigration organizations and contact lawmakers and government agencies, according to internal company emails. The email traffic, reviewed by The Wall Street Journal, shows that employees proposed ways to “leverage” search functions and take steps to counter what they considered to be “islamophobic, algorithmically biased results from search terms ‘Islam’, ‘Muslim’, ’Iran’, etc.” and “prejudiced, algorithmically biased search … [Read more...] about Google Employees Discussed Tweaking Search Results to Counter Trump Travel Ban | Breitbart

Updated 1:05 p.m. ET After President Obama's speech on the economy last night, Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal criticized government spending in the stimulus bill, citing examples including "$140 million for something called 'volcano monitoring.'" The $140 million to which Jindal referred is actually for a number of projects conducted by the United States Geological Survey, including volcano monitoring. This monitoring is aimed at helping geologists understand the inner workings of volcanoes as well as providing warnings of impending eruptions, in the United States and in active areas around the world where U.S. military bases are located. Most of the money from the stimulus bill earmarked for monitoring (only about a tenth of the total going to the USGS) will go to modernizing existing monitoring equipment, including switching from analog to digital and installing GPS networks that can measure ground movements, said John Eichelberger, program coordinator for the USGS's … [Read more...] about Gov.
