The Italian Interior Ministry has released figures on illegal immigration that show that arrivals are up more than 40 per cent so far this year. A total of 45,664 migrants landed in Italy illegally from January 1st to August 15th of this year, a number that is a 40.36 per cent increase over the same period last year, according to the interior Ministry statistics. The majority of the landings were autonomous, meaning that the migrants arrive on their own by boat, which accounted for  24,317 migrants, or 53.2 per cent of the total number who have come to Italy so far this year, Il Giornale reported . Just over 46 per cent of the migrants arrived after being rescued in Search and Rescue (SAR) operations, with 7,270 migrants being brought to Italy by migrant taxi NGOs that primarily operate in SAR areas off the North African coast. The Chinese state-run Global Times newspaper applauded its bosses on Tuesday for playing “an increasing important role” in helping the Taliban cement its stranglehold on Afghanistan through business ventures, particularly in pursuit of the country’s vast mineral wealth. The Taliban, a Sunni terrorist organization, seized control of the country a year ago on Monday as a result of leftist American President Joe Biden extending the 20-year Afghan war beyond the previous deadline of May 1, 2021. The group, which had previously agreed to negotiations with the U.S.-backed Afghan government, responded to Biden extending the war into September, and then walking back the deadline to August, by launching tens of thousands of attacks on the government and ultimately making it into Kabul. Though I still can't quite believe it (and a recent delay hasn't helped) Final Fantasy XV , a game that's taken on near mythical status alongside the likes of The Last Guardian , Beyond Good and Evil 2 , and Half Life 3 , is finally being released on November 29—and I've already played it. Selecting "New Game" has never been quite as satisfying before. Unfortunately for Square Enix, FF15 is unlikely to live up to expectations. Its development has simply been too long and its predecessors too divisive to escape the crushing inevitability of a game with this much hype and history behind it. A trade union official from the CISL union was attacked, robbed and kidnapped for around an hour by a group of migrants in a makeshift camp that conservatives have called to be closed. Mohammed Elmajdi, who serves as the territorial leader of the CISL union in the city of Foggia was visiting the “ghetto” area in Rignano Garganico in the Apulia region when he was attacked by a group of migrants for around an hour. Luigi Sbarra, national secretary of the CISL, denounced the attack saying, “Solidarity and closeness to the trade unionist victim of a cowardly aggression in the ghetto of Rignano. Full support to the CISL of Foggia that fights for the integration, inclusion, dignity of immigrants,” Il Giornale reports . According to the newspaper, the makeshift camp is home to around a thousand migrants, most of which work as local labourers and farmworkers.
