"Roomba" and "robot vacuum" are essentially interchangeable terms at this point, but the robot vacuum market ain't what it used to be. Though we totally back nearly every iRobot Roomba model, there's a whole new world of brands that you should be considering during your vacuum cleaner research. We know, we know: Keeping the Roomba models straight is a headache in itself — comparing handfuls of models from competing brands makes sticking with your old, barely-working vacuum look not so bad. Want to curb your kitty’s killer instinct? Add meat and playtime, study suggests
By Sofia Moutinho Feb. 11, 2021 , 11:10 AM Three-year-old Minnie is a serial killer. Like many domestic cats, the female tabby often sneaks out at night to hunt and brings back her prey. “We’ve had birds in the bedroom, rats in the paper bin, rabbits in the utility room, and several vermin that have died of fright,” says her owner, Lisa George from Cornwall, U.K. Things changed when George enrolled her kitty in an unusual scientific trial. For nearly 3 months, Minnie and dozens of cats were fed a diet much richer in meat content; a different group got extra playtime. At the end of the trial, both groups were bringing home one-third fewer animals than they did before. The findings “make sense,” says veterinary behaviorist Sharon Crowell-Davis at the University of Georgia, Athens, who was not part of the study. She says hunting is hard-wired into cats’ brains, and that play seems to satiate this desire. Meanwhile, she says, meaty food may satisfy their craving for “the diet … [Read more...] about Want to curb your kitty’s killer instinct? Add meat and playtime, study suggests
Kitty Letter is a new mobile word game from the creator of The Oatmeal, and it’s good
Matthew Inman, the creator of The Oatmeal webcomics and popular card game Exploding Kittens, has released a free mobile word game called Kitty Letter . Inman describes it as “Scrabble combined with Clash Royale .” In the game, you swipe around letters at the bottom of your screen to spell words, which sends small armies of cats marching toward your opponent in an attempt to blow up their base. Your opponent, meanwhile, is sending armies back at you to try to blow up yours. The mechanics are easy to pick up, and everything was in reach of my thumb, so I could easily play it one-handed. I played the first few levels of Kitty Letter ’s story mode, which not only served as a tutorial for the game’s mechanics, but also told a silly, Oatmeal comic-like story. There were lots of funny drawings, offbeat gags, and even an extended section where I was forced to listen to a person make deer noises while backed by smooth Barry White-style soundtrack. If you like The Oatmeal , … [Read more...] about Kitty Letter is a new mobile word game from the creator of The Oatmeal, and it’s good
Massachusetts regulator subpoenas GameStop bull ‘Roaring Kitty’
Massachusetts securities regulators have issued a subpoena seeking the testimony of a YouTube streamer who helped drive a surge of interest in GameStop Corp as part of a review of his registration, including his "outside business activities," an official said on Wednesday. The office of the Secretary of the Commonwealth William Galvin issued the subpoena on Monday, looking to hear later this month from Massachusetts financial advisor Keith Gill. Gill gained notoriety as "Roaring Kitty" on YouTube, making the case for buying shares of the video retailer with colorful language. Gill until recently worked for insurance giant MassMutual and is a registered broker. Gill became a key figure in the so-called "Reddit rally," which saw shares of GameStop surge 400% in a week before crashing back to pre-surge levels. The volatility has also drawn scrutiny from U.S. lawmakers, the White House , the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the New York Attorney General. … [Read more...] about Massachusetts regulator subpoenas GameStop bull ‘Roaring Kitty’
CEOs of Reddit and Robinhood and ‘Roaring Kitty’ slated to testify in GameStop hearing
Reddit CEO Steve Huffman, Robinhood co-CEO Vlad Tenev, and Keith Gill (aka Roaring Kitty) are all on the witness list for an upcoming hearing before the House Financial Services Committee, according to a release from Chairwoman Maxine Waters (D-CA). The hearing, to be conducted virtually, will probe the recent volatility in shares of GameStop following a rally fueled by a group of day traders active on the r/WallStreetBets Reddit board. Over a two-week period that began last month, GameStop’s stock (GME) skyrocketed by 500 percent, hitting a high of $483 on January 28th. Several government entities are now looking into whether there was market manipulation involved, and whether Robinhood and other brokerages that temporarily restricted trading of GME were in compliance with federal regulations. According to The New York Times , after Gill invested $53,000 in GME in 2019, he began tweeting and posting videos about the stock; following the Reddit rollercoaster last month his … [Read more...] about CEOs of Reddit and Robinhood and ‘Roaring Kitty’ slated to testify in GameStop hearing
