This Friday morning, the US Department of Justice said it has charged 12 Russian hackers for attempting to meddle with the 2016 US presidential election, just three days before President Trump is scheduled to have a one-on-one summit with Russian President Vladmir Putin.Among the Twitter reactions: Top Democrats are demanding that Trump call off the Putin summit -- and not always in the most pleasant language. Jennifer Epstein Bloomberg News Published 9:36 p.m. UTC Jun 12, 2018 President Donald Trump said he and German Chancellor Angela Merkel were waiting for a final draft of a joint statement by G-7 leaders when an iconic photograph was taken over the weekend showing the two leaders in what appeared to be a confrontation. “We finished the meeting, really, everybody was happy, and I agreed to sign something,” Trump told reporters at a news conference following his summit with Kim Jong Un in Singapore. “I asked for changes. I demanded changes. And in fact, those changes were made. That picture was, we were waiting for the document.” “Actually, we were just talking – the whole group – about something unrelated to everything, very friendly,” Trump said. Trump: ZTE exemption is a ‘favor’ to Chinese leader

He said there is no deal yet to reduce U.S. penalties that have caused the company to suspend its business, but that “you’re really hurting American companies also” by shutting down ZTE and the review is “a favor” to Xi. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said earlier that the U.S. didn’t mean to “put ZTE out of business” by penalizing the company for violating U.S. sanctions against Iran and North Korea.
