Microsoft has just unveiled Cortana, a Siri-like voice assistant that comes with the Windows Phone 8.1 update. The Cortana name is actually borrowed from the fictional character from Halo, and it is tightly integrated with Microsoft’s Bing search engine. One thing that became apparently clear during the demo is that Cortana is actually launching as a beta right now. Belfiore had quite a few mishaps during the demo, with the service not recognizing him perfectly well, and some features not working as supposed to, but that’s something most of us have bumped into with Siri and Google Now as well. The one thing that we’re particularly impressed with in Cortana is its actual voice. Unlike the very pronounced robotic tone of assistants like Siri and Google Now, Cortana sounds way more natural, and that’s a good thing. So what can Cortana actually do? Quite a lot actually. The Cortana personal assistant takes over the current voice commands in Windows Phone, but adds more … [Read more...] about Cortana unveiled: Windows Phone’s personal assistant tries to know you personally, but it’s still a beta

People said Google is evil because it checks a users email for packages and tracking information or Google Now would remember your previous searches and was context aware. Here we are now with Microsoft doing the same thing as Google now. BTW you can opt out of Google now, and from the sounds of it you can opt out of cortana as well. posted on 02 Apr 2014, 11:24 1 4. 0. phoneArena posted on 09 Apr 2015, 05:41 Like wearable tech, nobody is really certain that digital assistants can or will disrupt the current status quo, at least in the short term. Yet, most of us see the potential there, and some are already actively making use of it. What percentage, however? Without surveying the general public, it's hard to tell. So, on Tuesday, we did exactly that, asking you to share with the rest of us just how often you use your phone's digital assistant, whether her/its name is Siri, Cortana, or Google Now... I think it worth the mention, since BlackBerry still consider one of the BIG four of the Mobile OS war. posted on 09 Apr 2015, … [Read more...] about Comments for : Poll results: How often do you use your phone’s personal assistant (Google Now, Siri, Cortana)?

TerryTerius (unregistered) Google now is perfectly capable of keeping track of my meetings, bills, telling me what time I need to leave, so on and so forth. Isn't that what a personal assistant does? posted on 02 Apr 2016, 20:27 1 7. HR_19 (Posts: 103; Member since: 09 Aug 2014) One thing from when I used Cortana back when I had a Windows phone (the limits 1520, which I loved, it just didn't have the app support I wanted), is that I was able to tell it to turn Wi-Fi off every time I left or arrived my work, home, or certain friends' houses. I haven't figured out how to get Google Now to do that. And that, actually, is the most important feature for me. 8.
