The first, blanket, reason is the negative impact on consumer confidence that a possible trade war could have, particularly in the Chinese market. Apple has instituted a "Display Module Replacement Program" for owners of iPhone X that have been experiencing issues with the display, including a lack of responsiveness or incorrect responsiveness. From Apple Support: Apple has determined that some iPhone X displays may experience touch issues due to a component that might fail on the display module. An affected device may exhibit the following: The display, or part of the display, does not respond or responds intermittently to touch The display reacts even though it was not touched Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider will replace the display module on eligible devices, free of charge. No other iPhone models are part of this program. There's no serial number or anything else to check. It can affect any iPhone X sold at any time, from launch in November of 2017 until it was removed from the lineup in September of 2018. According to a support document, Apple identified a problem with some iPhone X devices that may cause a component of the display module to fail. By Roger Fingas Monday, November 12, 2018, 05:56 am PT (08:56 am ET) A woman from Schenectady, N.Y. accused of being the driver in a shooting used Apple's remote wipe feature to destroy evidence on her iPhone X that might have been related to the event. Police suspect Juelle Grant as the driver in the Oct. 23 shooting, which had no injuries, according to the Daily Gazette. Grant is also accused of hiding the shooter's identity, and removing the gun used. The iPhone was seized as evidence in the case, but police say that shortly after she triggered the remote wipe, an option available via Find My iPhone in iCloud. Normally the tool is intended for people with lost or stolen devices. Grant was arrested on Nov. 2 — the only person known to have been arrested in the case so far — and charged with two counts of tampering with physical evidence, and one count of hindering prosecution.
