iPhone 14 Pro price hike is looking increasingly likely
Audio player loading… Amidst the menagerie of rumors and leaks surrounding this year's forthcoming iPhone 14 series, no development has been more controversial than the potential of a price hike. It shouldn't be too surprising that even Apple isn't immune to current global economic pressures; driven by factors like the recent pandemic and soaring energy costs. Supply chain issues have affected numerous manufacturers and the resultant rising costs are now being passed onto customers. Talk of the entire iPhone 14 line receiving a price hike dates back several months at this stage and while numerous sources have gone back and forth on whether all of Apple's upcoming phones will be affected (or whether only some will), a new leak posted on South Korean online platform Naver (opens in new tab) (via PhoneArena (opens in new tab) ) claims that "Apple (has) decided to freeze the launch price of the iPhone 14 base model through a decision at the top executive level." … [Read more...] about iPhone 14 Pro price hike is looking increasingly likely

Facing quality and pacing issues, Apple reportedly delays iPadOS 16
Apple will delay the release of the iPadOS 16 software update for iPads well into October, about a month after the September release of the iPhone's iOS 16. The news comes from a report in Bloomberg citing people with knowledge of the matter. Typically, Apple releases iPadOS—which is closely related to iOS—very close to or shortly after the iOS launch, which comes in September alongside new flagship iPhone models. It's arrived slightly later in the past, but this would be an unusually large gap in releases. Further Reading Apple releases macOS Monterey 12.5, watchOS 8.7, and iOS, iPadOS, and tvOS 15.6 According to the report's sources, the delay can be blamed at least partly on the upcoming overhaul of the iPad's multitasking features, including the new Stage Manager feature that is also coming to Macs in macOS. Those features were announced at Apple's developer conference in June. The iPadOS beta period this year has been relatively rocky, with later release times … [Read more...] about Facing quality and pacing issues, Apple reportedly delays iPadOS 16

After briefly appearing in a fresh trailer at the recent Summer Game Fest 2022 , the shooter has been pushed back by 10 weeks. In a post on Twitter (opens in new tab) , Fatshark CEO, Martin Wahlund, said Darktide is now expected to release on PC on November 30. The Xbox Series X |S version is set to launch shortly after at an unspecified date. “Delaying a game is perhaps one of the most difficult decisions a developer faces and one we are not excited about making,” Wahlund said. “Still, we hope this speaks to our commitment to taking the time necessary and doing whatever it takes to get you the best possible game.” Wahlund went on to say the extra development time was needed to improve the game’s stability, performance, and key systems. All important in the fight against heresy. … [Read more...] about Warhammer 40,000 fans: you’ll be waiting a little longer for this co-op shooter
The Google Pixel 7’s rumored design will fix one of my biggest Pixel 6 problems
Audio player loading… A new rumor says that an upcoming Google Pixel smartphone will be made using ceramic materials – and if that's the case it could help solve one of the worst things about my Pixel 6. Don’t get me wrong, I love my Google Pixel 6 – it’s a step up from my Google Pixel 3A in all the right ways – but it can get very hot, which is a particular issue given the hot weather we've been experiencing here in the UK recently. If I want to play a mobile game like Genshin Impact , it can quickly begin to feel like my phone case is going to melt (maybe that’s why Google’s official Pixel 6 cases were getting warped ). Thankfully, it sounds like Google is working on a solution to this heating issue by making a Pixel smartphone with ceramic materials, and it could arrive as soon as the Google Pixel 7 . The rumor comes from a post on the Chinese social media app Weibo that was discovered by 9to5Google (opens in new tab) . Apple HomePod 2: everything you need to know
Audio player loading… The original Apple HomePod was one of the best wireless speakers on the market, before it was unceremoniously discontinued in March 2021 and the company elected to focus on the smaller and cheaper Apple HomePod mini . But with Apple's spatial audio-enhanced music now one year old and the recent release of Apple Music Sessions, available in Spatial Audio , it seems highly likely that a new HomePod boasting support for Spatial Audio is coming… and it's even been spotted in the wild . Apple HomePod 2 features - Expected to launch in fall 2022 or early 2023 Our hopes and dreams for a new HomePod were first rekindled thanks to Mark Gurman's June 2022 missive, in which the noted analyst states: "The (new) HomePod, code-named B620, will run the same S8 chip coming to the (new Apple) watches and will be closer to the original HomePod in terms of size and audio performance rather than a new HomePod mini. The new HomePod will … [Read more...] about Apple HomePod 2: everything you need to know
New Google site begs Apple for mercy in messaging war
Google has been unable to field a stable, competitive messaging platform for years and has thoroughly lost the messaging war to products with a long-term strategy. At least some divisions inside the company are waking up to how damaging this is to Google as a company, and now Google's latest strategy is to... beg its competition for mercy? Google—which has launched 13 different messaging apps since iMessage launched in 2011—now says, "It's time for Apple to fix texting." Google launched a new website called " Get the Message "—a public pressure campaign with a call to "tweet at @Apple to #GetTheMessage and fix texting." Google hopes public pressure will get Apple to adopt RCS, a minor upgrade to the SMS standard that Apple uses for non-iMessage users. Google has been pushing this strategy since the beginning of the year, but coming from the company with the world's most dysfunctional messaging strategy, it just comes across as a company tired of reaping what it has been sowing. … [Read more...] about New Google site begs Apple for mercy in messaging war
It’s time for Apple to fix texting, says Google
Google has launched a new campaign to put pressure on Apple to adopt RCS (rich communication services) and improve texting between Android and iOS users. RCS is a next generation SMS protocol that upgrades text messaging across Android and iMessages. , "It's time for Apple to fix texting. It's not about the color of the bubbles. It's the blurry videos, broken group chats, missing read receipts and typing indicators, no texting over Wi-Fi and more," said the Google campaign . "These problems exist because Apple refuses to adopt modern texting standards when people with iPhones and Android phones text each other," it added. The tech giant is asking Apple to fix these issues by supporting RCS. "Messaging should bring people together -- not pull them apart," Google said. "The Android team's goal is to make texting a more secure, modern and enjoyable experience for everyone, regardless of the phone they're using. Because it shouldn't matter what … [Read more...] about It’s time for Apple to fix texting, says Google
Google hopes new campaign will get Apple to support RCS
Audio player loading… Google is ramping up its efforts to get Apple to support the Rich Communication Services ( RCS ) standard on iMessage after previous offers to work together on integration fell on deaf ears. With support from the mobile industry body GSMA, device manufacturers, and mobile operators, Google has been spearheading RCS as a successor to SMS and a competitor to over-the-top messaging platforms like WhatsApp. RCS works natively in vendor messaging applications, including Android Messages but Apple has not yet got on board. It launched iMessage in 2011 with iOS 8 but the application has not spread beyond Apple devices like the iPhone iPad and Mac. Apple RCS This means iMessage users wanting to communicate with non-iOS users need to send SMS texts that lack the ability to include rich media such as images, videos, and gifs. Google’s new ‘Get the message’ campaign highlights the problems that many users have with a lack of interoperability. … [Read more...] about Google hopes new campaign will get Apple to support RCS
