Phonearena polls Did your update your iPhone to iOS 12 already, or are you waiting on 12.1? Yes, on iOS 12 now 76.71% (695 votes) (695 votes) Not yet 23.29% (211 votes) (211 votes) 906 votes Initial claims that the iOS 12 uptake has been the slowest in the history of iPhone and iPad software updates so far have been followed by better numbers, and our own poll yesterday comes as a tangential confirmation that the adoption rate has sped up. At Day 10, it sat at just 20.7%, compared to up to 63% with previous iOS versions, but is reportedly up to 50% now, in line with historical precedence. A quarter of our 906 respondents said that they are hesitant to hit the button, perhaps waiting for the first inevitable bug fixes and feature unlocking in the next sub-version that is likely to land towards the end of the month. The reasons for the slower initial adoption rate might have been that there are much more iPhones and iPads out there now, plus … [Read more...] about Did your update your iPhone to iOS 12 already? The iOS 12 uptake has been the slowest in the history of iPhone and iPad software updates so far, and the adoption rate sat at just 20.7% at Day 10, compared to up to 63% with previous iOS versions.Granted, there are much more iPhones and iPads out there now, plus some of the features that Apple promised on stage during the WWDC event back in the summer, are arriving with the subsequent 12.1 update. Group FaceTime, dual SIM iPhone XS and XS Max functionality, and some others come to mind, but 12.1 is also expected to include plenty of bug fixes for charging and other stuff. This is why we wanted to ask you if you have already updated your non-2018 iPhone to iOS 12, or are you taking the wait and see approach and will pull the OTA trigger when iPhone XR time comes three weeks from now, and Apple unchains the 12.1 beta into the public square. … [Read more...] about Did your update your iPhone to iOS 12 already, or are you waiting on 12.1?

By Roger Fingas Friday, May 04, 2018, 10:07 am PT (01:07 pm ET) Apple is aware of a problem in which the microphone will stop working on iPhone 7 and 7 Plus models running iOS 11.3 or later, AppleInsider can confirm. Affected phones may prevent owners from being heard in FaceTime or conventional phone calls after upgrading to iOS 11.3, or using speakerphone functions. It's an "extremely rare problem, with a need for repair being rarer still," a source told AppleInsider. According to an internal document sent to authorized service providers, seen by MacRumors, repair technicians should be asking customers to disconnect any audio accessories, then running diagnostics if the problem persists. "Device could not detect dock" or "accessory not supported" messages will pop up for affected iPhones, at which point repairs can be made. Crucially, in the case of this specific issue, Apple is reportedly allowing providers to request coverage exceptions for customers who are otherwise out of … [Read more...] about Apple says mic problem affecting some iPhone 7 models with iOS 11.3 or later
By Roger Fingas Wednesday, March 28, 2018, 06:41 am PT (09:41 am ET) A rundown of the specifications for Apple's new "budget" iPad indicates that its performance is roughly comparable to the iPhone 7 line, which uses the same A10 processor —and that it has just 2 gigabytes of RAM, limiting its multitasking versus the iPad Pro.The tablet can handle iOS 11's Split Screen mode, and Slide Over while keeping the original app in view, but trying to combine the two modes results in the Split Screen windows being dimmed, iMore's Serenity Caldwell noted. The 10.5- and 12.9-inch iPad Pros are able to run three apps simultaneously, thanks to having double the RAM. The amount of memory was discovered through Geekbench Geekbench 4 benchmarks run in the process of testing. In terms of overall performance, the 2018 iPad managed a 3,254 single-core score, actually slightly below the iPhone 7. It reached 5,857 in multi-core however, making it faster than the iPhone 7 Plus —even though … [Read more...] about Apple’s 2018 iPad includes 2GB of RAM, 2.2 GHz A10 processor; performance similar to iPhone 7
