When the first Bravely Default launched in 2014 , it represented a return of sorts. Developer Square Enix made its name with classic turn-based roleplaying games like Final Fantasy , but those eventually gave way to bigger, more cinematic experiences. With Bravely Default , Square was going back to its roots. It may have technically been a new franchise, but the game was pure classic Final Fantasy -style adventuring. It even introduced a novel battle system to help it from retreading too much new ground. So where does that leave a sequel? Bravely Default II — technically the third game in the series, following 2016’s Bravely Second: End Layer — does all of the same things that made the original so interesting. But seven years later, it doesn’t have quite the same impact. Bravely Default II is solidly made, and the battle system is still a lot of fun to play around with. However, it also does very little to stand out — this isn’t a game you play for an engrossing … [Read more...] about Bravely Default II is a classic RPG that feels a little too familiar

FoodPanda hot on untapped food delivery potential, cold on need to be ‘super app’
FoodPanda believes there still are inroads to be made in the food delivery market, which potential remains largely untapped across Asia-Pacific. It hopes to do so not by building a "super app" like several of its contemporaries are doing, but by using technology to diversify services with "strategic" synergies. The Singapore-headquartered food delivery platform processes an average of seven to eight orders per customer per month, which can be considered high in the e-commerce realm. However, compare that to the multiple times individuals consume food each day, those figures are still low, according to FoodPanda's Asia-Pacific CEO Jakob Angele. The food delivery industry remained young, he said, with plenty of room for more innovation and technological advancements to take place. This development was especially critical for food aggregators and platforms such as FoodPanda, which operated on thin margins and without the luxury of overcharging for their services. … [Read more...] about FoodPanda hot on untapped food delivery potential, cold on need to be ‘super app’
This army man’s daughter knew no comfort zone
Vidya Laxman was born a few shades darker than most of her family members , an aberration that didn’t go unnoticed. But soon that skin tone paled in front of the smart, confident and sensitive woman that she metamorphosed into. Vidya, an army man’s daughter, says agility, ambiguity and chaos defined her childhood years. With the family constantly shifting base, Vidya had to switch nine schools in 12 years. The technology director at Tesco Bengaluru recalls how once all their belongings, which were being transported by truck from Bengaluru to Gwalior, got gutted in an accidental blaze. “I was in class 1 and a lot of life’s tangible memories got wiped out in that fire,” she says. But the episode was also a lesson in how to bounce back and rebuild. No wonder Vidya says she owes her character to her dad and his profession. At home, there were no two rulebooks, which meant Vidya was as much a sports junkie as her brother; she was into swimming, badminton and basketball. Astride her … [Read more...] about This army man’s daughter knew no comfort zone
Hello Kitty won’t stop breeding
This cat has no shame. She continues to haunt us with her incessant need to reproduce every consumer item in existence with her likeness on it. Our mistrust of the advancing Kitty empire on Crave is well-known, but we haven't brought it up in a while. Friends, it's time. The cat is now trying to green-wash her cheap plastic empire, calling this solar-powered cell phone recharger "eco-friendly." Well now, throwing "solar-powered" into the description certainly sounds environmentally friendly. But wait. Apparently it's good for about 500 charges, then you're supposed to throw it away and buy a new one? That's sort of the opposite of eco-friendly. Moving on, this next item is just inexplicable. Say hello to the Hello Kitty DJ Speaker. Here our evil feline friend finds herself ensconced in a plastic case, outfitted with headphones and a set of turntables. This is supposed to hook up to your iPod, MP3 or CD player, and she'll bop along to the music. ThinkGeek is … [Read more...] about Hello Kitty won’t stop breeding
