Abhijit Bose, the co-founder and CEO of Ezetap, has been appointed as the head of WhatsApp India. He will be joining the Facebook-owned company early next year (2019). Once, Bose joins as head of WhatsApp India, he will be based out of Gurugram, India. He along with his team will focus on helping large and small businesses connect with their customers. In the new position, Bose will also have the mandate to build an India-based team, the company’s first full country team outside US. This is for the first time that WhatsApp has appointed an India head. The messaging platform has facing heat from the Indian government since past many months on the issue of spreading of fake news via its platform. Apple recently appointed Ashish Chowdhary as its new India head. He will be joining the company from January next year (2019). Chowdhary in his previous position has served as the Customer Operations Officer (COO) at Nokia. Ashish Chowdhary has also headed Nokia Networks for the country till 2007. He joined the Finnish company in 2003. Later, he went on to become the head of Managed Services business of Nokia Siemens Network and the head of customer operations for Asia, Middle East & Africa (EMEA) at Nokia Networks. Born in the year 1965, Ashish Chowdhary is a Mathematics graduate from the University of Delhi. He also holds a masters degree in Computer Science from the Emory University, Atlanta; and Business Administration from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. Alibaba founder and former CEO Jack Ma has joined UCWeb‘s board of directors as the company focuses on building mobile ecosystems in India and other emerging markets. UC Browser recently surpassed Opera as the top mobile browser in India, but only by a thin margin, and UCWeb has said it plans to build relationships in different verticals in order to increase its foothold. Guangzhou-based UCWeb, which claims 400 million users worldwide, grabbed the top spot among mobile browsers in India in July, according to StatCounter. UC Browser now holds a 29.9% market share, compared to Opera’s 28.6%. UC Browser’s worldwide growth has been driven by partnerships with phone makers including HTC, Samsung, Nokia, LG, Lenovo and carriers such as Vodafone, China Mobile and China Telecom. Cutting corners: A whole swathe of issues have appeared with the new Windows 10 October Update; Microsoft Store apps mightn’t be able to connect to the internet, performance might be reduced due to incompatibilities with older Intel drivers and worst of all, files might be deleted. In order to protect users from these issues, Microsoft has stopped rolling out the update until a solution is found. When Microsoft claimed that they “focused on helping people across their work and personal lives” with their new update, deleting personal files isn’t exactly what most users had in mind. In a quick response to the spreading panic they said: “We have paused the rollout of the Windows 10 October 2018 Update (version 1809) for all users as we investigate isolated reports of users missing some files after updating.” They declined to comment further. Alibaba, already an investor in UCWeb, will buy all remaining shares of the web browser and search company. The two firms announced the merger, one of the most significant among Chinese Internet companies to date, earlier today. UCWeb will join UC Mobile, one of Alibaba’s business unit as Alibaba preps for its U.S. IPO. Though Alibaba did not disclose how much the deal is worth, it did say that it is worth more than the $1.9 billion paid for 91 Wireless by Baidu last year, formerly the biggest deal in China’s Internet sector.
