When Honor launched the 9 Lite, it took no time to grab our eyeballs with its slim and shiny design. Not just that, but having four cameras and a decent processor for just Rs 10,999 is more than what one will ask for.But then it was soon joined by the popular Redmi Note 4 successor-- the Note 5 at a similar price range. Although, the phone is more like an upgrade, it still is a feature-rich phone with up to the mark specifications. At a price below 12K, the two phones right now are the best options to buy. The Honor 9 Lite also has a 4GB RAM variant priced at Rs 14,999, but it gets beaten by the Redmi Note 5 Pro at a lesser price and better value for money proposition. So we decided to pit the cheaper variant against the best in its range to find the ultimate winner.Design and buildWhile writing this comparison, the only thing that I didn't find difficult to judge was the design. As the Honor 9 Lite has been putting the high-end phones to shame as soon as it debuted. I've mentioned this … [Read more...] about Comparison: Honor 9 Lite vs Redmi Note 5

Honor has rolled out budget phones at a steady clip over the last two years, and the Honor 9 Lite is the latest addition to its portfolio. The phone made its debut in China at the end of last year, and went on sale in India followed by a launch in Europe last month. Available for £199 ($275) in the UK and ₹10,999 ($170) in India, the Honor 9 Lite ticks a lot of boxes: it has an 18:9 panel, comes with Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box, and features a total of four cameras. The Redmi Note 5 is no slouch either — Xiaomi decided to stick with the same internal hardware as last year, but introduced an 18:9 panel and lowered the price point to ₹9,999 ($153), making it a real bargain. With two great options on offer at the same price, it's time to find out which phone to pick. What the Honor 9 Lite does better Of the two phones, the Honor 9 Lite has the better design. The 2.5D curved glass at the back has a mirror finish, and it looks striking — even more so when … [Read more...] about Honor 9 Lite vs. Xiaomi Redmi Note 5: Which should you buy?
While the industry top dogs are battling it out throughout the globe, less dominant Chinese manufacturers have been pushing the envelope on what's possible in the super-affordable segment. A few months ago, we told you the story of the $130 Xiaomi Hongmi (codenamed Red Rice) and its quad-core chip inside, yet it wasn't until yesterday that local star Huawei managed to launch a counterattack worth your serious attention. During the event that saw the launch of the company's first octa-core smartphone – the Huawei Honor 3X – attendees were also treated to an early glimpse of the equally impressive Honor 3C. The phone is one of the most budget-friendly offerings currently available on the market, with a 5-inch 720p display, a 1.3GHz quad-core MT6582 chipset and an 8-megapixel Sony-made camera with f/2.0 aperture. There's also a fairly-sized cell powering the device with a capacity of 2300mAh. Storage sits at 8GB with the option for microSD expansion. The Honor 3C also touts … [Read more...] about What can $130 buy? The brand new Huawei Honor 3C with a quad-core CPU and up to 2GB of RAM!

Let's not forget this is a phone never destined for the USA and even if you brought one here it wouldn't play well with US frequency bands. Plus what would warranty claims be like? Alleged benchmark results for the recently unveiled Huawei Honor 3C are making the rounds on the interwebs, showcasing some impressive performance scores. Obviously, we're not talking Galaxy Note 3-dethroning scores, but considering that the 1GB RAM version of the phone costs about $130 (for Huawei's home market, at least), we are actually very happy to see the device score as highly. It's kind of amazing just how far along the industry has come in the span of just a year – just 12 months ago, you'd be hard-pressed to get a device that offered a fluid user experience for anywhere near that price point.Anyway, back to the benchmarks at hand. It would appear that we're looking at the results that the 2GB RAM (~$160) version of the Honor 3C can muster, and they are actually pretty much on par with the Nexus 4. That being said, it's worth pointing out that the Mali-400 GPU on the new quad-core from MediaTek – the MT6582 – doesn't quite compare with the Adreno 320 on the … [Read more...] about Benchmark results for the $130 quad-core Huawei Honor 3C show a capable entry-level device

Huawei has just announced the launch of its new EMUI 8.0 user interface, which is based on Android Oreo. The new UI already comes pre-loaded on the Honor View 10 and the upcoming Honor 9 Lite. However, a handful of other smartphones will receive EMUI 8.0 via OTA update, including the Honor 8 Pro, Honor 8 Lite, Honor 9i, and Honor 7X, Huawei recently confirmed.Huawei has decided to jump from EMUI 5.1 to 8.0 to avoid any confusions related to the version of Android which is based upon. EMUI 8.0 brings lots of new features and improvements in addition to what's included in Android Oreo, especially since it's based on machine learning.Among the different AI capabilities that Huawei stuffed inside EMUI 8.0, here are some that will have a great impact on how consumers will use their Honor and Huawei smartphones going forward: Intelligent Resource Allocation, Intelligent Context Awareness, User Behavior or Intelligent Behavior Prediction. If you own any of the Honor smartphones mentioned … [Read more...] about Huawei to roll out EMUI 8.0 based on Oreo to Honor 8 Pro, Honor 8 Lite, Honor 9i and Honor 7X
Whether it intends to launch it on a wider scale at Mobile World Congress remains to be seen, but for now, Honor has made the Honor 8 Lite official in Finland, following rumors of the device’s existence spread over the past weeks. The addition of the word Lite to the name should give you a clue about the differences between it and the full Honor 8 phone. That’s right, this is a midlevel device, and doesn’t have the Honor 8’s cool dual-lens rear camera. The Honor 8 Lite is up for pre-order in Finland through retailer Expert, with a delivery date of February 17 attached, and a price of 270 euros. That’s about $292 at current exchange rates. It joins a post on Instagram by Huawei Finland (Huawei is Honor’s technical partner and parent company) showing the phone, and saying pre-orders have already begun. All this activity means we now have a complete picture of the Honor 8 Lite, and a full specification list, and it’ll look very familiar to Huawei … [Read more...] about If you can’t buy the Huawei P8 Lite 2017, the Honor 8 Lite is nearly identical
