While the industry top dogs are battling it out throughout the globe, less dominant Chinese manufacturers have been pushing the envelope on what's possible in the super-affordable segment. A few months ago, we told you the story of the $130 Xiaomi Hongmi (codenamed Red Rice) and its quad-core chip inside, yet it wasn't until yesterday that local star Huawei managed to launch a counterattack worth your serious attention. During the event that saw the launch of the company's first octa-core smartphone – the Huawei Honor 3X – attendees were also treated to an early glimpse of the equally impressive Honor 3C. The phone is one of the most budget-friendly offerings currently available on the market, with a 5-inch 720p display, a 1.3GHz quad-core MT6582 chipset and an 8-megapixel Sony-made camera with f/2.0 aperture. There's also a fairly-sized cell powering the device with a capacity of 2300mAh. Storage sits at 8GB with the option for microSD expansion. The Honor 3C also touts … [Read more...] about What can $130 buy? The brand new Huawei Honor 3C with a quad-core CPU and up to 2GB of RAM!

Alleged benchmark results for the recently unveiled Huawei Honor 3C are making the rounds on the interwebs, showcasing some impressive performance scores. Obviously, we're not talking Galaxy Note 3-dethroning scores, but considering that the 1GB RAM version of the phone costs about $130 (for Huawei's home market, at least), we are actually very happy to see the device score as highly. It's kind of amazing just how far along the industry has come in the span of just a year – just 12 months ago, you'd be hard-pressed to get a device that offered a fluid user experience for anywhere near that price point.Anyway, back to the benchmarks at hand. It would appear that we're looking at the results that the 2GB RAM (~$160) version of the Honor 3C can muster, and they are actually pretty much on par with the Nexus 4. That being said, it's worth pointing out that the Mali-400 GPU on the new quad-core from MediaTek – the MT6582 – doesn't quite compare with the Adreno 320 on the … [Read more...] about Benchmark results for the $130 quad-core Huawei Honor 3C show a capable entry-level device
