HTC had its ups and downs over the years, this company was once the third-largest smartphone manufacturer in the world, but it managed to lose its way at one point. That being said, HTC did release quite a few compelling smartphones over the years, and we’re here to take a look at the history of HTC’s crown jewels, its flagship devices. We will start our timeline back in 2012 when HTC announced its One X flagship, a first true flagship smartphone, which was both regarded and marketed as such. Truth be said, HTC did announce a number of other compelling Android phones before it, like the HTC EVO 3D, Hero, and Nexus One, but the One X was the first true flagship offering, which is why we’ll start our overview with that phone. HTC unveiled quite a few flagship phones after the HTC One X, and do note that this list will be updated when new devices get announced. HTC One X The HTC One X was announced back in February 2012, and it was quite refreshing in terms of the design … [Read more...] about History Of HTC’s Flagship Smartphones

The Galaxy Note 10 is getting some attention in the Korean media today, and one report in particular is rather interesting. According to ETNews, the Note 10 may be Samsung’s first phone with a “keyless” or “buttonless” design. The company’s next flagship may not have the power, volume, or even the Bixby key and will instead use touch or gesture-based alternatives. It’s unclear exactly what kind of gestures or physical key alternatives Samsung will go with. The company had filed patents that described how squeezing the edges of a display could be used for performing various actions, and phones like the HTC U11 let you squeeze the sides of the device for doing things like launching the camera app. Replacing traditional physical keys with such gestures would be a drastic change for the average consumer, so one certainly hopes Samsung will think things through before making that change, that too on a mainstream flagship.ETNews mentions that the … [Read more...] about Galaxy Note 10 coming in August without any physical keys?
Over the years, as its smartphone business has continued to shrink, HTC has gradually switched its focus towards more premium devices in the hope of securing profits. But with the HTC U12+ performing pretty poorly, it looks as though the company could soon switch up its strategy.According to new information, HTC has scrapped all plans for a flagship in the first half of 2019. The company will instead be releasing some kind of mid-range offering in late spring. Unfortunately, it’s unclear at this moment in time what price point HTC will be targeting. So specifications and features remain a total mystery, as does the device’s design. In addition to this new mid-range offering, the Taiwan-based company reportedly has “something else” in the works for later on in the year. It’s unclear what this is but it could be a slightly more powerful device designed to compete with Apple’s iPhones and next year’s Samsung Galaxy Note 10. Alternatively, it could … [Read more...] about A HTC U12+ successor isn’t happening, “something else” on the way instead

HTC has posted its quarterly earnings for the third quarter of the year, and it's another loss, this time it's NT$2.6 billion (or around $84.7 million USD). That is a slightly larger loss than the previous quarter when it reported a NT$2 billion loss. This shows that HTC is still having a hard time competing with the likes of Samsung, Apple, LG and other smartphone makers. According to HTC's press release today, the company had revenues of NT$4.04 billion, with a gross margin of 4.7-percent for the quarter. Operating loss was NT$2.79 billion with an operating margin of -68.9-percent. And finally, the net loss after taxes was NT$2.62 billion or NT$3.18 per share. Not an ideal quarter for HTC, but it is something that investors saw coming, especially since HTC does release their revenue numbers monthly now. Gross margin was up, however, about two-percent year-over-year. In the quarter, HTC did continue to see some major developments in other businesses it is in. Including Vive, it … [Read more...] about HTC Posts Another Quarterly Loss, $84.7M Loss In Q3 2018
