Last week Nvidia quietly released a new 12GB variant of the RTX 3080. The card sounds like it's the same as the original 10GB version, but with an extra 2GB of VRAM. And while that's the gist of it, there's a little more to the release. Along with the extra memory, there's a 3% increase in core count and an 8% increase for the ROPs. This sees the 12GB model jump up to a 384-bit wide memory bus for a 20% increase in memory bandwidth, despite the same 19 Gbps GDDR6X memory is being used. The key change is a 20% increase in memory bandwidth and capacity. With all said and done, the 12GB 3080 will land between the original 3080 and 3080 Ti in terms of performance, and we suspect it will often be closer to the 3080 Ti, so a nice little upgrade there.
