The Intel subsidiary does not believe they need to use the “brute force” strategy of AI video-training that Tesla implements, but rather the “semantics of the road” can be discerned through more targeted means. Their current systems record video data, which it processes locally to understand the geometry of its environment, then sends those small packets of information back to Mobileye to help construct massive 3D maps. These maps provide detailed geometrical data as well as contextual, behavioral data in local regions of the city or street they were taken. … [Read more...] about Intel’s self-driving tech division Mobileye is picking up speed, set to become a true threat to Tesla

Best air purifiers for 2021: Coway, Honeywell, Blueair and more
Ry Crist/CNET I have mixed feelings about Dyson's $550 TP04, but if price isn't a concern and Dyson's signature modern design appeals to you, it might be worth the splurge. The TP04 uses a HEPA filter, but provides no CADR. A Dyson spokesperson told me, "CADR as measured by some current methods is not an accurate representation of a real home," and thus the company has developed its own testing procedures "to replicate a more realistic setting." That includes a testing room that has over double the footprint of AHAM's testing rooms, along with nine sensors placed around the space (versus AHAM's single sensor). The Dyson TP04, perhaps unsurprisingly, performs well according to Dyson's own metrics. … [Read more...] about Best air purifiers for 2021: Coway, Honeywell, Blueair and more

Companies selling light-up masks aren’t creating this problem, and if the flash helps someone to put one on, it’s a victory. But these flashy contributions just highlight how far we still have to go before we have simple and effective protection for everyone. … [Read more...] about CES showed off the COVID-19 mask gimmick arms race
