Exclusive — Watch: Democrat Tom Malinowski Gaslights Constituents on ‘Crazy Culture Bullsh*t’ Taught in Schools

August 6, 2022 by www.breitbart.com Leave a Comment

Democrat Rep. Tom Malinowski (D-NJ) is maintaining his erroneous claim that parental concerns over public schooling are “crazy culture bullshit,” telling his constituents, “I am not going to stand for these MAGA Republicans trying to lower our schools down to the levels of Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Florida.” The New Jersey Democrat went on to mislead his constituents during a meet and great in Scotch Plains, New Jersey, last month, telling them that Florida had banned certain math textbooks “because there was one math book and they had little biographies of African American mathematicians.” “I guess that’s CRT now,” he said. “You can’t find real CRT, so you gotta find something black in there. That’s gotta be the CRT.” Watch: “And so it allows this crazy culture bullshit, right?” he said. “When you actually talk to people, how do we implement it, what it means, it doesn’t sound so good.” “Even if you’re one of the prejudiced people who want to persecute LGBT … [Read more...] about Exclusive — Watch: Democrat Tom Malinowski Gaslights Constituents on ‘Crazy Culture Bullsh*t’ Taught in Schools

What to expect on Disney Plus Day 2022 Like previous years, Disney Plus Day 2022 will see the service play host to a number of high-profile content premieres that will be exclusive to Disney Plus subscribers (opens in new tab) . A look inside Leap Motion, the 3D gesture control that’s like Kinect on steroids

June 26, 2012 by www.theverge.com Leave a Comment

Leap Motion's not the household name Kinect is, but it should be — the company's motion-tracking system is more powerful, more accurate, smaller, cheaper, and just more impressive. Leap CTO David Holz came by the Verge's New York offices to give us a demo of the company's upcoming product (called The Leap), and suffice to say we're only begrudgingly returning to our mice and keyboards. The Leap uses a number of camera sensors to map out a workspace of sorts — it's a 3D space in which you operate as you normally would, with almost none of the Kinect's angle and distance restrictions. Currently the Leap uses VGA camera sensors, and the workspace is about three cubic feet; Holz told us that bigger, better sensors are the only thing required to make that number more like thirty feet, or three hundred. Leap's device tracks all movement inside its force field, and is remarkably accurate, down to 0.01mm. It tracks your fingers individually, and knows the difference between your … [Read more...] about A look inside Leap Motion, the 3D gesture control that’s like Kinect on steroids

Prey’s final cut includes an odd quirk for the Predator franchise

August 3, 2022 by www.techradar.com Leave a Comment

Audio player loading… Prey director Dan Trachtenberg believes the Predator film's final runtime was always destined to be 97 minutes long. Speaking exclusively to TechRadar at Prey's UK junket, Trachtenberg surprisingly revealed that the sci-fi action movie's runtime was "meant to be". How so? Because every single cut of the upcoming Hulu movie , no matter who edited it, always clocked in at the 97-minute mark. Curiously, Trachtenberg's revelatory comments weren't part of the actual interview, either. Before the official chat began, TechRadar's Tom Power passed comment on Prey's pleasantly short runtime; the existence of a sub-two hour movie being something of a rarity these days. It was then that Trachtenberg revealed the surprising quirk behind Prey 's final runtime and joked that it was seemingly fated to happen. "By the way, every cut of this movie was 97 minutes," he explained. "There was no first cut that was four hours long – it was always that length. … [Read more...] about Prey’s final cut includes an odd quirk for the Predator franchise

From TV trailblazer to IP afterthought: TiVo bought for $1.1 billion

April 29, 2016 by arstechnica.com Leave a Comment

Entertainment company Rovi announced that it will acquire DVR maker TiVo in a deal worth $1.1 billion. Rovi will pay for the deal mostly in stock at $10.70 per share, with approximately $277 million to be paid in cash at $2.75 per share. Rovi's CEO Tom Carson will continue to run the company, although it will now assume the "iconic TiVo brand" as its name. The deal seems to be centered on patents. According to The New York Times , Rovi's interactive TV program guides account for less than half of its $526 million revenue last year, while the rest is made up of its licensed intellectual property. TiVo made a name for itself with its DVR technology, but the patents that make its DVR hardware and software work are proving to be more valuable. Together, Rovi and TiVo have over 6,000 patents issued and pending in the digital entertainment space. Rovi expects to close the acquisition in the third quarter of this year. "Rovi’s acquisition of TiVo, with its innovative products, … [Read more...] about From TV trailblazer to IP afterthought: TiVo bought for $1.1 billion

Textbook publisher: NFTs will let us squeeze even more money out of students

August 3, 2022 by www.theverge.com Leave a Comment

Textbook publisher Pearson suggests blockchain tech could let it take a cut of secondary textbook sales, capturing a section of the book market that’s so far escaped it. As quoted by Bloomberg , Pearson CEO Andy Bird believes non-fungible tokens, or NFTs, could help publishers make money off textbook resales, although he stopped short of describing concrete plans. “In the analog world, a Pearson textbook was resold up to seven times, and we would only participate in the first sale,” said Bird after the company announced its latest quarterly earnings this week. “The move to digital helps diminish the secondary market, and technology like blockchain and NFTs allows us to participate in every sale of that particular item as it goes through its life.” Bloomberg suggests this would mean letting buyers resell ebooks, something that’s so far been a rarity in the publishing world. It’s not clear how, when, or if NFTs might show up in Pearson’s catalog. But they could mark a new … [Read more...] about Textbook publisher: NFTs will let us squeeze even more money out of students

Audio player loading… Warner Bros. has canceled The Flash, with the show's forthcoming ninth season confirmed to be its last. According to Deadline, (opens in new tab) the final season of the long-running DC drama will premiere in 2023 with a 13-episode run, marking the shortest season length in the show's history. Speculation about the show's future had been bubbling away since it was confirmed that star Grant Gustin had only committed to a one-year deal back in January of 2022, and it has now been confirmed that the show will be done before 2023 is out. Launched in 2014, The Flash began life as a spin-off from Arrow, and followed Gustin's Barry Allen, a crime-scene investigator who gains super-human speed after an explosion in a laboratory. He uses his newly-found speed to fight crime and hunt other metahumans in Central City as the Flash, a masked superhero. The establishing of The Flash led to Warner Bros. and its DC Comics arms putting in place an … [Read more...] about It’s official: Warner Bros. is done with the Arrowverse

Damaged your fancy new Mac? Things might not be as hopeless as you think

Audio player loading… Data recovery company DriveSavers appears to have become the first firm to successfully retrieve data from M1-powered Apple Macs that have been “damaged beyond repair”. The company claims its engineers have identified the steps necessary to access data stored within the latest Apple devices and developed a technique for surgically transplanting M-series silicon onto new, functional boards. “Through dedicated research and development, DriveSavers Data Recovery engineers have determined the optimal techniques for safe and effective data recovery, minimizing the risk of data loss ,” the company said in a press release (opens in new tab) . Hacking the Mac Typically, recovering data from the SSD of a damaged Mac has been no easy feat. As our sister site Tom’s Hardware (opens in new tab) explains, the SSD controller is embedded within the M1 SoC, so if the chip is damaged, the data may effectively end up trapped. … [Read more...] about Damaged your fancy new Mac?
