The U.S. general nominated to take over European Command has told senators that Finland and Sweden’s push to join NATO may not require adding more U.S. ground forces into either country, but that military exercises and occasional American troop rotations will probably increase. Christopher Cavoli, who currently serves as head of U.S. Army Europe and Africa, said the increased military focus will probably continue to be on eastern Europe — where nations are more worried about potential Russian aggression and any spillover of the war on Ukraine. He said the accession of the traditionally neutral Sweden and Finland to NATO would be advantageous, not least because it would mean that “the entire [Baltic] Sea, with the exception of… a few kilometres, will be the coastline of NATO nations, which will create a very different geometry in the area” and put enormous pressure on Russia “as they sail forth from St. Petersburg and Kaliningrad.” Praising Finland, in particular, for its … [Read more...] about U.S. General: Bigger NATO May Not Require More U.S. Forces in Europe

Vodafone Idea: Why Vodafone Idea may exit public Wi-Fi JV with Airtel
NEW DELHI: Vodafone Idea may exit the joint venture — Firefly Networks Limited — formed with Bharti Airtel in 2014 to provide public Wi-Fi services, BusinessLine reported recently. The availability of affordable data plans brought by the 4G revolution in India and more accessible mobile internet services are some reasons due to which the JV is unable to make impact, the report said, adding that this may drive Vi to exit the JV. “I think we might potentially exit from the joint venture. At the moment, both companies are not investing much attention into the joint venture,” Vodafone Idea CEO Ravinder Takkar , told the publication. Explaining the formation of JV, Takkar said that the country had “very little 3G spectrum” and the telcos anticipated a surge in data consumption, which led to concerns about coping with the situation. “The whole idea behind it was to build a common JV to offload the data traffic onto local WiFi networks.” But, there have been … [Read more...] about Vodafone Idea: Why Vodafone Idea may exit public Wi-Fi JV with Airtel

It was the only proposal that came close to reaching the 51% mark for approval. Investors opposed resolutions that challenged the company's policies on various issues, including the treatment of workers and use of non-disclosure agreements. To be sure, about 13% of the company's voting stock is controlled by Founder and Executive Chairman Jeff Bezos , raising the bar for any effort to win a majority of investor support. The proposal for a report on whether Amazon cloud, surveillance and other capabilities contribute to human rights violation won 40% support. But an overwhelming 87% voted down a proposal calling Amazon to review worker safety. Only 39% of votes were in favour of a resolution related to unionisation of workers, but … [Read more...] about amazon: Amazon investor proposal to review plastic use narrowly fails to clear

NEW DELHI: Breaking his silence on India plans, Elon Musk has said that Tesla will not manufacture cars in India unless it is allowed to sell and provide service to its electric vehicles. On Starlink, he said that SpaceX is still waiting for the Indian government's approval. "Tesla will not put a manufacturing plant in any location where we are not allowed first to sell & service cars," Musk tweeted late on Friday. He responded to a user asking about the company's manufacturing plans for India. Responding to another follower on Starlink, he said: "We are waiting for government approval". Union Ministers, especially Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari , keep on making a beeline to Musk to come and manufacture electric cars in India. The team Musk hired in India last year has now been diverted to focus on the Middle-East and the larger Asia-Pacific markets.
