The saga around the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the HTC One and HTC One (M8) Google Play editions continues. Earlier this month, it was confirmed that these stock Android warriors will have received the sweet firmaware update by November's end. Unfortunately though, Google said "No!" and did not approve the Lollipop builds that HTC had submitted. At the time, Mo Versi, HTC's VP of Product Management, promised that those donning such a device will be rocking Lollipop as soon as Google gives them the green light, which was expected to happen yesterday, December 1.Well, the saga has taken yet another most unpleasant turn - Google has once again delayed the approval of the Lollipop builds for the HTC One and One (M8) Google Play edition devices. Once again, the one who brought the news was Mo Versi. According to him, the exact reason for this hold-up is Google's busy schedule. The "current workload" that Mountain View is experiencing means that those faithful adopters of these stock … [Read more...] about Google once again delays the Android 5.0 Lollipop updates for the HTC One (M8) and (M7) Google Play editions
If you are rocking the Google Play Editions of either the HTC One (M8) or the HTC One, then you were probably gleaming with joy when it was announced that your devices will receive Android 5.0 Lollipop this very Friday, November 21. This would have made them the first Google Play edition handsets to officially receive the latest and greatest iteration of Google's mobile OS.Unfortunately though, it just became clear that the stock-Android version of the HTC flagman won't receive Lollipop today. This bad news got broken by Mo Versi, the Vice President of Product Management with HTC, who also broke the news about this Friday's confectionery update. The fault is, seemingly, not in HTC, mind you - the VP claimed that the Taiwan-based manufacturer submitted the software build for the device to Google back in Monday, but Mountain View informed HTC that it will "need to re-spin SW". Mo Versi said no more, so we don't know when Lollipop will eventually hit the HTC One (M8) GPE and the HTC … [Read more...] about Android 5.0 Lollipop update for HTC One (M8), One (M7) Google Play Editions delayed by Google

As expected, HTC has started pushing out the Android 5.0.1 update to the Google Play editions of both the HTC One (M8) and HTC One (M7). A tweet sent out late yesterday from HTC executive Mo Versi, had alerted everyone to expect the latest and greatest version of Google's open source OS, to be disseminated on Friday to the stock Android version of the two phones. The updates weigh in at a hefty 500MB, which means that you might want to make sure that your phone has a Wi-Fi connection before downloading it. Also, with such a large file, you should make sure that your battery is charged to at least 50% before you start the updating process. Having your phone go dead in the middle of downloading the update could have some negative consequences.Keep in mind that the OTA update is sent out in phases, so if the update to Android 5.0.1 doesn't reach your phone today, perhaps it will by tomorrow. It's just a matter of being patient.
