April 9, 2018 - Written By Justin Diaz Google Play app downloads reached 19.2 billion in the first quarter of 2018 according to a new report from App Annie, which looks at all kinds of data related to applications on popular platforms such as Android and iOS. While Google Play still holds the lead by more than 10 billion downloads iOS downloads reportedly came just a little bit closer this quarter, totaling over 8 billion downloads globally. It was just downloads that increased either, as global spending between both app market platforms amounted to around $18.4 billion. This figure includes anything from paid app purchases to in-app purchases for other digital content within the apps.Perhaps unsurprisingly the first quarter of the year saw big upticks in direct relation to game downloads and usage. This increase was driven by two of the most popular games that are our right now, PUBG and Fortnite, both of which saw the western releases of their mobile counterparts earlier this year, … [Read more...] about Google Play App Downloads Reached 19.2 Billion In Q1 2018

Just in case you were looking for a break from the BlackBerry madness that has been happening today, we've got some interesting news in regards to the Google Play Store, and the iTunes App Store. As any Android user will tell you, one of the biggest annoyances is that despite the platform having a huge lead in market share worldwide , developers still build for iOS first. Well, that may be about to change because it looks like the Play Store revenue could surpass the iTunes App Store by the end of 2013 or early 2014. We had seen projections that said Google Play app revenues were growing much faster than Apple 's App Store, and saw some numbers proving that in November, but Google Play doesn't seem to be slowing down too much. To be fair, the iTunes App Store is still the top of the heap, pulling in about 350% more in total revenue in Q4 of 2012 than Google Play did. But, Google Play is growing much faster with a 200% jump in revenue in Q4, while iTunes only managed … [Read more...] about Google Play app revenue could surpass iTunes App Store by the end of 2013, will developers follow?
A new look is coming to the Google Play app based on a leak of version 4.0.16. Filled with brighter and more colorful images, there seems to be a big change in the default position on automatic updates. Where currently you must opt-in to receive automatic updates for the apps that you have installed, the box is checked off in the new version if you don't want the app to automatically update. Sounds like we could be in for some confusion there. Missing from the new version of Google Play is the page that you are sent to after clicking on the box to download an app. We expect Google to release this update during Google I/O coming in May. So far, it looks like the changes are all in the way the content is presented. Google Play had about 700,000 apps available back in October, a far cry from the 20,000 apps it had back in December 2009 . source: DroidLife … [Read more...] about New 4.0 version of Google Play app leaks
The Google Play Store has grown significantly in size since its earlier days as the Android Market. Likewise, the broader range content available today means that several key apps comprise the Google Play family. To better unify its Play-related services, Google is now rolling out some tweaks to the app icons on Android, which all now take a play button-like aesthetic. Though the old icons were never an eyesore, Google has felt it necessary to make the changes in the name of uniformity, which should make it easier for users to identify Google Play apps at a glance. As noted in an official blog post on the matter:The old icons, as seen below, will be phased out over the next couple of weeks in favor of the new look (above). Not a groundbreaking adjustment, by any means. But if we had to pick, we'd say that the new play-shaped icons are an improvement on the older look. Do you agree, or would you rather Google left them be? Let us know of your thoughts below. … [Read more...] about Google Play app icons get a refreshed new look
