Nicholas Sutrich 17 Oct 2019 4 Source: Android Central Yes, you read that right. In a move that closely mirrors the way Google handled two-button navigation on the Pixel 3, gestural navigation will be required to use the new Google Assistant on the Pixel 4. Folks who prefer three-button navigation will be stuck with the old, slower Google Assistant according to posted documentation and Google spokespeople. Google representatives didn't indicate to Android Police whether this decision could change in the future. We've seen timed exclusives for features on Pixel phones in the past, and while the new Google Assistant is Pixel 4-only for now, it's also far more limited than originally thought. If you prefer to use 3-button navigation on the Pixel 4, Google Assistant will need to make a … [Read more...] about Pixel 4’s super fast new Google Assistant only works with gesture navigation

Jason England 13 Dec 2019 1 Source: Android CentralWhat you need to know The new next-gen Assistant is now available in five new countries in English. The new countries include Australia, Canada, Ireland, Singapore, and the UK. Google made the next-gen Assistant ten times faster by condensing it down and running it locally on the phone. Back in May of 2019, we got our first look at Google's "new Assistant." While showing it off on stage, one of the main benefits was the huge increase in speed it would bring to the experience. Google accomplished this by condensing Assistant from over 100GB worth of algorithms down to only 500MB, enough for it to run locally on your phone instead of in the cloud. By moving it to your device and running locally, the new Assistant promised to be up to ten times faster than before. Sounds fantastic, doesn't it? … [Read more...] about The new Google Assistant is now available in Canada, the UK, and more
The $399 Google Home Max is finally for sale [Update]
The biggest Google Home is finally on its way to stores. The $399 Google Home Max was announced at Google's October 4th hardware event alongside the Google Home Mini, Pixel 2, and tons of other hardware. The Max doubles down on the Home's music capabilities, offering a more powerful sound system in a form factor about the size of a bookshelf speaker. With pretty much zero fanfare, the Google Home Max has started popping up at stores. Online listings are live at Best Buy and Verizon, with both showing a ship day of "today." The Google Store doesn't seem quite ready yet and still shows a "join waitlist" button instead of a an actual "buy" link. Don't bother checking Amazon, which refuses to sell Google products like the Google Home and Chromecast, in part because they don't support Amazon Prime Video. The Google Home Max features dual 4.5-inch high-excursion woofers and custom 0.7-inch tweeters. Google claims it is 20 times more powerful than the original Google … [Read more...] about The $399 Google Home Max is finally for sale [Update]

Google’s 4K Pixelbook Go is now available for purchase
When Google announced its relatively inexpensive new Pixelbook Go, it said that a more expensive Pixelbook Go configuration with a 4K screen was on the way, and that model is finally available for purchase (via Android Central). The 4K configuration is more than twice as expensive as the base model — $1,399 for the 4K version instead of $649 for a base Pixelbook Go — and it even eclipses the $999 base price of Google’s Pixelbook 2-in-1. (The Go is supposed to be the affordable alternative.) But that machine doesn’t have a 4K screen option, and you get a Core i7 processor for cheaper with the Pixelbook Go than with Google’s backflipping laptop, where you’ll pay $1,649. That said, it might be hard to see the benefits of a 4K screen on the Pixelbook Go’s 13.3-inch display, and you’re paying a lot for the option to do so, though the 4K configuration is the only Go with that i7 and 256GB of solid-state storage. My colleague Dieter Bohn … [Read more...] about Google’s 4K Pixelbook Go is now available for purchase
