Now that we've seen her magnificent performance as Marla Grayson in I Care a Lot , it's almost time to find out whether Rosamund Pike takes home an award at this year's Golden Globes . She's up for best actress (musical or comedy), but faces stiff competition from Anya Taylor-Joy (Emma) and Maria Bakalova (Borat Subsequent Moviefilm). Elsewhere, the TV and movie awards show dropped a few surprise nominations this year, embracing revenge thriller Promising Young Woman with four nods. The film starring Carey Mulligan sits behind The Trial of Chicago 7 (five nods) and overall leader Netflix's Mank (six). But Chloé Zhao's lauded Nomadland is probably the favorite to win best picture (drama), making Zhao's entry to the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Eternals (arriving at the end of the year) even more enticing. After a little shift in the awards season, the Golden Globes are finally kicking us off. The full list of nominees feature one of the biggest and best shows of last year: The Queen's Gambit . The Mandalorian also scored a big nod for its excellent second season in the best drama series category, going up against a very different show in The Crown, as well as Ozark, Lovecraft Country and, maybe a little surprisingly based on its mixed reviews, Ratched. Amazon Studios could see a win for Borat Subsequent Moviefilm in best movie comedy or musical, going up against Hamilton from Disney Plus. (Is it a movie? It is now.) Netflix leads nominations in the film and TV categories, with Mank and The Crown leading with six each. We'll find out who'll take home the film and TV awards on Sunday, Feb. 28. Awards season in Hollywood begins Sunday, February 28th, with the 78th Golden Globe Awards, hosted by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. The Golden Globes, usually considered a harbinger of who may take home awards at other shows like the Oscars, will look a bit different this year thanks to the coronavirus pandemic. The hosts and presenters will be in different locations in the US and around the world. Streaming services have finally come into their own at the Globes, with Netflix leading the pack of with 20 total nominations for its television shows; Hulu has six total nominations, Apple TV Plus has two, and Disney Plus has one. In the motion picture categories (the Globes honor films and TV shows), Netflix leads the way with 22 nominations. And it seems the Golden Globes’ judges have heard the criticism from past years about excluding women from the best director category. In a year of ongoing movie delays and stalled television productions, it’s no surprise that this year’s Golden Globes winners were dominated by streaming services — in particular, Netflix. However, before getting into the winners of the evening, it’s impossible to ignore that this year’s Golden Globes were surrounded by a number of important controversies. Last week the Los Angeles Times published an in-depth feature investigation into the questionable ethics involving all 87 members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), the voting body that selects Golden Globe winners every year. Some members were flown to Paris and put up in expensive hotels on Netflix’s dollar for on-set visits to Emily in Paris , which was nominated for a few awards tonight. The 2021 Golden Globes are over, and saw the late Chadwick Boseman score a posthumous win with his role in Ma Rainey's Black Bottom. Best TV series (drama) winner The Crown swept a stack of awards, with Emma Corrin and Josh O'Connor picking up first Globes wins as Princess Diana and Prince Charles respectively. The Queen's Gambit also nabbed two well deserved awards, for best limited series and best actress in a limited series for Anya Taylor-Joy. I Care a Lot's Rosamund Pike won best actress (musical or comedy), and Ted Lasso's Jason Sudeikis won best actor in a TV series (musical or comedy). Borat Subsequent Moviefilm beat out Hamilton to take home best movie (musical or comedy).
