September 23rd came and went, and many of you probably don't even remember why that's an important date. Depending on the perspective, 5 years may appear like a long time to some people. If you think about the rate at which progress has historically occurred, however, then you may just understand what we mean by saying that Android, including the immediate ecosystem of hardware, tech, media and whatnot that surrounds it, has made giant leaps from what the platform represented just 5 … [Read more...] about The Evolution of Android, 5 years later

The HTC ThunderBolt was the first 4G-enabled smartphone on Verizon's speedy LTE network, but since its launch not much has changed with its software – the handset continues to run on the quickly aging Android 2.2 Froyo, even though back in March HTC spilled the beans about an upcoming Gingerbread update. Well, four months later, it's still coming, but this time we have a particular time period for it – the third quarter of the year.HTC representatives have been spreading the word about the update which will add Gingerbread tweaks and features, and fix some problems along the way:“We are working hard to address the issues you have mentioned with future updates for the device. Stay tuned for details as we get closer to the update availability,” HTC replied to Droid-life.We expect to see an improved Sense UI, but also Skype video and faster GPS lock … [Read more...] about HTC ThunderBolt getting Gingerbread this quarter
Welcome to the club T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4G users! You are finally able to use Gingerbread and all of the goodies that brings. We know that Ice Cream Sandwich is the new hotness, but it's always nice to get an update. The update will not only bring your Galaxy S 4G up to Gingerbread, Android 2.3.6 to be exact. The update also brings a mysterious "Google Security Patch", whatever that means, as well as camera enhancements and WiFi enhancements. The bad news is that this update will not be available OTA, so you'll have to dig up your USB cable, hook up your phone to your computer and use the Samsung Kies Mini software to update your phone. source: T-Mobile via Android Police … [Read more...] about T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4G gets Gingerbread
