Last week Nvidia quietly released a new 12GB variant of the RTX 3080. The card sounds like it's the same as the original 10GB version, but with an extra 2GB of VRAM. And while that's the gist of it, there's a little more to the release. Along with the extra memory, there's a 3% increase in core count and an 8% increase for the ROPs. This sees the 12GB model jump up to a 384-bit wide memory bus for a 20% increase in memory bandwidth, despite the same 19 Gbps GDDR6X memory is being used. The key change is a 20% increase in memory bandwidth and capacity. With all said and done, the 12GB 3080 will land between the original 3080 and 3080 Ti in terms of performance, and we suspect it will often be closer to the 3080 Ti, so a nice little upgrade there. But the pressing issue with the 12GB RTX 3080 is the same problem we face with all graphics cards right now: pricing and availability. Given the performance, it's no surprise to find that the 12GB model is positioned between … [Read more...] about Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 12GB Review

Asus TUF Gaming RTX 3080 OC Review
Today we're reviewing the Asus TUF Gaming RTX 3080 OC, the first third-party GeForce RTX 3080 graphics card to come our way and we're very interested to see how it compares to Nvidia's Founders Edition model. We'll be checking out gaming performance which should be very similar to the FE card, but also thermal and overclocking results. First, let's tear the TUF Gaming RTX 3080 OC down and take a look at the cooler and PCB. Please note this was done after we collected all our thermal and performance data. Starting with LED lighting, because of course, that's important. The TUF is minimalist which we like, there is a small light bar above the 'TUF' branding along with a backlit logo which faces outwards when the card is traditionally mounted. In terms of design and appearance, the TUF Gaming looks like your typical high-end graphics card. It's a 2.7-slot design, so it takes up 3 slots, it measures 30cm long, stands 12.7cm tall and weighs in at 1385 grams, so it's slightly … [Read more...] about Asus TUF Gaming RTX 3080 OC Review
spoiler-free review: A worthy return to the danger zone
As I walked out of my review screening of Top Gun: Maverick , coming down from its adrenaline-filled finale, a small part of my brain began looking for dents in the film's armor. Maybe it's the critic in me, but my thoughts didn't need long to land on stuff from the original film—a plot point, a stylistic choice, a particular character—that didn't return this time. I chewed on those thoughts for a second, but before I could lose myself in cataloging them at length, a sensation came over me. It landed like a massive G-force blast, as if I were a jet fighter pilot attempting a seemingly impossible climb: one of great satisfaction with this sequel and admiration that this film pulled off the impossible feat of adhering to the old while doing something new. The series' predilection for steering military theater toward Hollywood-style silliness is arguably more tolerable, as tempered by a savvy script and cutting-edge stunt work. The character development hits important notes for both … [Read more...] about spoiler-free review: A worthy return to the danger zone
JLab Epic Air Elite Review
When JLab's Epic Air earphones arrived last year, they felt like a big step forward for true wireless earbuds —they looked different than the competition and had better battery specs. At $149, the new Epic Air Elite earbuds cost the same, but boast even more battery life for their charging case than the original. The water-resistant in-ears also now have EQ modes you can switch between, as well as an ambient mode that allows you to hear your surroundings. While the original Epic Air earned our Editors' Choice, t his time around there are even more true wireless options to compete with, so the sequel falls a little shy of those honors. And while the Epic Air Elite earbuds deliver quality audio, there's room for improvement in next year's model. Design One key differentiator in the black-and-silver Epic Air Elite's design is the ear hook. Sure, we're used to seeing these on Bluetooth and wired fitness earphones, but true wireless in-ears rarely deviate from the standard, earplug … [Read more...] about JLab Epic Air Elite Review
Logitech MX Master 3S review: The best wireless mouse gets slightly better
Specs at a glance: Logitech MX Master 3S Sensor Optical (model not disclosed) Connectivity options Bluetooth Low Energy, 2.4 GHz wireless dongle Programmable buttons 6 Onboard profiles None Lighting None Size 4.92×3.32×2.01 inches (124.9×84.3×51 mm) Weight 4.97 ounces (141 g) Warranty One year Price (MSRP) $99 I've used the Logitech MX Master 3 as my primary productivity mouse since it came out in 2019. I've tested dozens of mice since, but none juggled a decent number of programmable buttons, advanced wireless capabilities, multi-device control, and long-term comfort as admirably as the MX Master 3. Today, Logitech released a revamped version, the MX Master 3S . It follows in Master 3's footsteps of wireless mouse excellence but doesn't introduce enough improvements to warrant ditching my MX Master 3 and opening my wallet again. As you might have guessed by the mild moniker modification, the 3S is … [Read more...] about Logitech MX Master 3S review: The best wireless mouse gets slightly better
Garmin’s new rear camera watches your back while you ride your bike
Audio player loading… Sports tech company Garmin is adding a much-needed camera to its Varia line of bicycle radar and tail lights. It’s called the Varia RCT715 and houses a 1080p camera that shoots at 30 fps. The device features Automatic Incident Capture that ensures it continues recording “before, during, and after” an accident. So as you can imagine, the RCT715 is a pretty sturdy device. It has a water resistance rating of IPX7 which means it can survive submerged up to one meter of water for a maximum time of 30 minutes. However, the Varia RCT715 offers no protection against dust or sand. When turned on, the Varia camera will record continuously and save the footage to the Varia app . You can then transfer that footage to your at-home computer or smartphone. The app will even alert you if the rear camera detects a car getting too close behind you (assuming you have your phone clamped to your bike and viewable while you ride). The RCT715 is also … [Read more...] about Garmin’s new rear camera watches your back while you ride your bike

Huawei launches gorgeous-looking Mate Xs 2 foldable phone for €1,999
Bottom line: The Huawei Mate Xs 2 features an impressive-looking 120Hz display that can fold outwards. However, this design makes it more susceptible to screen damage than other foldable phones. It unfortunately also misses out on 5G connectivity, something way cheaper phones include. In a livestream today, Huawei announced the global availability of their newest flagship foldable smartphone and a multitude of wearables. The company first launched these devices in China earlier this year, but now they're coming to western markets, starting with Europe. The Mate Xs 2 is Huawei's first new foldable since the P50 Pocket . It packs a massive 7.8-inch OLED screen (2480 x 2200 resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate) that folds outwards, unlike competitors such as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3. When folded up, it reduces to a more narrow 6.5-inch display, allowing for easier one-handed use. The device is powered by Qualcomm's last-gen Snapdragon 888 4G, as Huawei isn't allowed to … [Read more...] about Huawei launches gorgeous-looking Mate Xs 2 foldable phone for €1,999
Samsung’s 240Hz 4K Mini LED 32-inch monitor goes on sale for $1,500
Samsung’s latest high-end gaming monitor — the curved 32-inch Odyssey Neo G8 — is now available to preorder for $1,500 and will be available to purchase on June 6th, the company has announced. The news follows its reveal back at CES in January . The Odyssey Neo G8 is notable for having a 240Hz refresh rate, making it one of, if not the, fastest-refreshing 4K monitors on the market. Other features include a claimed peak brightness of 2,000 nits, support for Adaptive-Sync (which means it’ll do variable refresh rates with both Nvidia and AMD GPUs), and a curvature of 1000R. Like its larger sibling, last year’s ultrawide Odyssey Neo G9 , the G8 is Mini LED. It uses over a thousand LEDs as a display backlight, and these can be selectively turned off and on for better contrast. The G8 has 1,196 local dimming zones across its curved 32-inch display. For an idea of how the Samsung Odyssey Neo G8 might perform in practice, check out our review of the Odyssey Neo G9 … [Read more...] about Samsung’s 240Hz 4K Mini LED 32-inch monitor goes on sale for $1,500
