A California-based outsourcing firm discriminated against Americans for information technology (IT) jobs in the United States, preferring to hire only foreign workers imported on H-1B visas, a Department of Justice (DOJ) settlement reveals. This month, federal prosecutors announced a settlement with SpringShine Consulting Inc. for soliciting employment applications for IT jobs in the U.S. exclusively from foreign H-1B visa workers. According to the settlement, SpringShine sought employment applications on a job recruiting website — seeking foreign IT consultants only on H-1B visas. The recruitment post excluded all other job applicants, most notably qualified Americans. “Employers that discourage applicants based on their citizenship or immigration status, or save certain employment opportunities only for applicants who require sponsorship to work in the United States, violate the law and must be held accountable,” the Justice Department’s Kristen Clarke said in a statement. … [Read more...] about DOJ: Outsourcing Firm Discriminated Against Americans, Offering Tech Jobs Only to Foreign H-1B Visa Workers

Durbin, Tillis Use Migrant Deaths to Revive Amnesty for Illegal Aliens
Sens. Dick Durbin (D-IL) and Thom Tillis (R-NC) are reportedly in talks to revive negotiations over a plan that would give amnesty to millions of illegal aliens living in the United States. This week, as Breitbart News reported , 51 border crossers died in an abandoned tractor-trailer in an apparent human smuggling operation along the United States–Mexico border near San Antonio, Texas. Since President Joe Biden took office, at least 650 border crossers have died trying to cross the border — a record-breaking figure since the data started being tracked in 2014. Now, Durbin tells Politico he hopes to use the migrant deaths to revive amnesty negotiations with Tillis. Both Durbin and Tillis sit on the Senate Judiciary Committee and also sought to revive amnesty talks in April. “We’ve been talking the last couple days about reviving that effort,” Durbin told Politico. “And I think what happened at the border with finding 51 dead migrants in that tractor-trailer is what I … [Read more...] about Durbin, Tillis Use Migrant Deaths to Revive Amnesty for Illegal Aliens
Intel demands $625 million in interest from the EU after antitrust fine is overturned
What just happened? Intel is demanding that the European Commission competition watchdog hand over $624 million in interest charges following the company's successful appeal against a $1.2 billion antitrust fine earlier this year. In January, a European court ruled in support of Intel over its appeal of the 1.06 billion Euros ($1.2 billion) fine that the European Commission levied against it in 2009. The case revolved around Intel allegedly paying manufacturers, including Dell, HP, and Lenovo, to favor its processors over AMD's from 2002 to 2007 by giving them special treatment in the form of rebates. The Commission returned the $1.2 billion payment to Intel after its court defeat. Now, five months after that ruling, Intel has applied to the EU General Court for "payment of compensation and consequential interest for the damage sustained because of the European Commission's refusal to pay Intel default interest." While the amount Intel is demanding represents more than … [Read more...] about Intel demands $625 million in interest from the EU after antitrust fine is overturned
French Govt ‘Recommends’ People Mask Up Again, Considers Mandate
NICE, France (AP) – Tourism is booming again in France – and so is COVID-19. French officials have “invited” or “recommended” people to go back to using face masks but stopped short of renewing restrictions that would scare visitors away or revive anti-government protests. From Paris commuters to tourists on the French Riviera, many people seem to welcome the government’s light touch, while some worry that required prevention measures may be needed. Virus-related hospitalizations rose quickly in France over the past two weeks, with nearly 1,000 patients with COVID-19 hospitalized per day, according to government data. Infections are also rising across Europe and the United States, but France has an exceptionally high proportion of people in hospital, according to Our World in Data estimates. French government spokesperson Olivia Gregoire has said there are no plans to reintroduce national regulations that limit or set conditions for gathering indoors and other activities. … [Read more...] about French Govt ‘Recommends’ People Mask Up Again, Considers Mandate
Chinese Propaganda Outlet: San Antonio Migrant Deaths a ‘Stain on Washington’s Human Rights Record’
China’s regime-run Global Times communist propaganda outlet condemned the discovery of at least 51 dead people , who had been attempting to illegally enter the United States, on Monday in San Antonio, Texas, as a “stain on Washington’s human rights record” despite overwhelming evidence that the deaths were the product of extralegal human trafficking, not actions by the American government. The Chinese Foreign Ministry condemned America for its “poor track record on migrant issues” and demanded the United States act to “protect human rights” in the wake of the tragedy. San Antonio police revealed on Monday night that a local worker had found a tractor-trailer on a nearby backroad carrying at least 60 migrants, including children. Among those, 48 were found already dead. At least two others died after the discovery of the truck despite medical intervention. The truck appeared to be part of a human trafficking operation meant to bring thousands of Mexicans, Central Americans, … [Read more...] about Chinese Propaganda Outlet: San Antonio Migrant Deaths a ‘Stain on Washington’s Human Rights Record’
China Brands America a ‘Menace’ for Banning Slave-Made Products from Uyghur Region
China’s Global Times government-run newspaper published an outraged editorial on Tuesday condemning America as a “menace” for implementing the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act, which requires companies to prove any product imported from occupied East Turkistan is not made by slaves. Extensive evidence – including government advertisements selling slaves online – has illustrated a growing trade of Uyghur, Kazakh, and other Muslim-majority ethnic group enslavement in East Turkistan, which China refers to by the Mandarin name “Xinjiang.” Xinjiang is the largest region of China and has, since at least 2017, endured a Communist Party genocidal campaign against those same groups, fueled by mass forced sterilizations of women and the imprisonment of as many as 3 million people in concentration camps. The vast majority, over 80 percent , of China’s cotton comes from East Turkistan, representing about 20 percent of the global market. East Turkistan is also a hub for manufacturing … [Read more...] about China Brands America a ‘Menace’ for Banning Slave-Made Products from Uyghur Region
G7 Leaders Debate Alternative to China’s Belt and Road Debt Traps
Leaders from the Group of Seven (G7) nations on Sunday announced a $600 billion infrastructure plan for developing nations – a program clearly intended to compete with China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). Germany’s Deutsche Welle heard signals from the G7 summit in the Bavarian Alps that their plan would provide financial benefits to developing countries without the debt traps and political interference that characterize China’s loans: Beijing has been accused of trapping low-income countries into unaffordable debts to be part of its trillion-dollar BRI push, which is seen as expanding China’s trade power with Africa, Asia and Europe. The new G7 fund will focus on climate initiatives, among other projects, including a $2 billion solar farm investment in Angola, $320 million for hospital construction in Ivory Coast and $40 million to promote regional energy trade in Southeast Asia. EU Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen said G7 was offering “sustainable, … [Read more...] about G7 Leaders Debate Alternative to China’s Belt and Road Debt Traps
Public Must Cut Energy Usage to Curb Threat to ‘Political Cohesion’
Energy companies in France have told the public that they must “immediately” reduce their energy usage as a result of Europe’s sanction war with Russia. As a result of a sanctions war between Russia and Europe, the French public must now “immediately” cut back on the amount of energy they use, the heads of three major energy providers in the country have now said. The demand comes shortly after Moscow dramatically reduced the amount of gas it is supplying to some European countries, while completely cutting off others seemingly in retaliation for sanctions imposed on Russia by Western powers. According to a joint statement penned by the three energy tsars published by Le Journal De Dimanche , the extremely precarious energy situation now means that the French public must “immediately” cut back on their energy usage, or risk leaving the country in a vulnerable situation. In particular, Engie Managing Director Catherine MacGregor, EDF Chief Executive Jean-Bernard Lévy … [Read more...] about Public Must Cut Energy Usage to Curb Threat to ‘Political Cohesion’
Poland Completes Anti-Migrant Belarus Border Wall
WARSAW, Poland (AP) – A year after migrants started crossing into the European Union from Belarus to Poland, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and top security officials visited the border area on Thursday to mark the completion of a new steel wall. On Friday, Polish authorities will also lift a state of emergency along the border that has blocked journalists, rights workers and others from witnessing a human rights crisis. At the very least, 20 migrants have died in the area’s freezing forests and bogs. The Polish government characterizes the wall as part of the fight against Russia; human rights defenders see it as a huge double standard, where white, Christian refugees from Ukraine are welcomed but Muslims from Syria and other countries are rejected and mistreated.
