The Nation: Football Coach Prayer SCOTUS Decision About ‘Coercion’

June 30, 2022 by www.breitbart.com Leave a Comment

A recent Supreme Court ruling defending a football coach’s right to pray on the field after games is “not about freedom” but about “coercion,” according to a recent piece in the Nation. The article claims the decision ignores the freedom of students “to not pray,” while lamenting that a “white Christian” taking a knee in the name of “freedom of religion” is considered a “hero” while a teen protesting “police getting away with murder” is told to “shut up” and play. The Monday essay titled , “A Football Coach’s Prayer Is Not About Freedom. It’s About Coercion,” and penned by the magazine’s sports editor Dave Zirin, calls the Supreme Court decision to allow a football coach to “become a dictator-priest,” one “riddled with lies.” I wrote this @thenation . Pass it on. "A Football Coach’s Prayer Is Not About Freedom. It’s About Coercion." https://t.co/pAAYDxc1OT — Dave Zirin (@EdgeofSports) June 27, 2022 The piece begins by declaring this “the season of coercion” for … [Read more...] about The Nation: Football Coach Prayer SCOTUS Decision About ‘Coercion’

EA punts, gives $600k to former football star in

Jim Brown, an NFL legend who played for the Cleveland Browns, scored big Monday despite his retirement from the gridiron in 1965. That's because Electronic Arts, the maker of one of the world's most popular video game series— Madden NFL— has given up its lengthy court battle with the former eight-time Pro Bowl player. The publisher is giving Brown $600,000 to settle a lawsuit that accuses EA of misappropriating his likeness. Brown said he expected his case to set precedent for other players involved in similar litigation against EA concerning the right of publicity. The legal claim was first recognized in 1953 in a federal appeals court case about professional baseball cards. The claim is most often invoked by celebrities and professional athletes. For the most part, the right of publicity gives people an economic right to their names and likenesses so that they can profit from the commercial value of their identities. “I took a stand for all athletes and laid a framework for … [Read more...] about EA punts, gives $600k to former football star in

Historic Supreme Court Decisions Loom on Abortion, Guns, Religion

June 23, 2022 by www.breitbart.com Leave a Comment

WASHINGTON, DC – The Supreme Court is expected in the next seven days to hand down five major decisions, three of which will be huge, and potentially material for the history books –on abortion, the Second Amendment, and religious liberty. The Supreme Court’s term begins the first Monday of October, and officially lasts until the date of the next term’s October start date. But the court’s term as a public matter usually ends in the final week of June, which is to say next week. This year is unusual in the number of extremely consequential cases it has. This week the court held in Carson v. Makin that Maine violated the First Amendment’s Free Exercise Clause by excluding Christian school choice from a school aid program. But with Carson decided, fully five of the court’s 13 remaining cases are also major cases. One is Biden v. Texas , about President Joe Biden’s attempt to shut down one of former President Donald Trump’s signature policies, the Migrant Protection Protocols … [Read more...] about Historic Supreme Court Decisions Loom on Abortion, Guns, Religion

Urban Sky’s Earth-imaging stratospheric ‘microballoons’ are ready for a close-up

June 23, 2022 by www.theverge.com Leave a Comment

Urban Sky, a Colorado-based company focused on collecting images and data of the Earth using small stratospheric balloons, says it is officially entering commercial operations after three years of operating partly in stealth and raising funding . The company says it is ready to start serving customers with its balloons, which can be deployed from the back of a pickup truck and ascend into the sky in just minutes. Specifically, the company offers what it calls “microballoons, ” high-altitude balloons that can float to the stratosphere carrying a small payload and maintain a constant position over an area. About the size of a Volkswagen bus at launch, these balloons ultimately inflate to be the size of a small car garage in the air. That’s much smaller than a typical stratospheric balloon, which could engulf an entire football stadium when fully inflated. Urban Sky envisions its technology being used for things like real-time wildfire monitoring, environmental changes, … [Read more...] about Urban Sky’s Earth-imaging stratospheric ‘microballoons’ are ready for a close-up

Fox Sports Host Calls Tim Tebow NFL Tryout ‘Ultimate White Privilege’

May 5, 2021 by www.breitbart.com Leave a Comment

Former NFL player Tim Tebow could be an NFL player once again after earning a tryout with the Jacksonville Jaguars, but Fox Sports Radio host Rob Parker thought the whole deal smelled of “white privilege.” “It’s the ultimate white privilege.” Parker said on The Odd Couple radio program. “This guy has failed in the NFL, he can’t play. I know he played for [Jaguars head coach] Urban Meyer in college, I get that, but so have a lot of other people.” Parker went on to insist that Tebow does not deserve another chance at joining the NFL. “I have nothing against his religious beliefs; he’s a devout Christian, that’s all great and nice. I have no issues with that. He’s NO GOOD. How ’bout that? Why do people keep giving this guy chances when he doesn’t deserve it?” Parker continued. “Tim Tebow is a FAILURE on the pro level! Tim Tebow is a LOSER.” Tebow, of course, was an NFL quarterback from 2010 to 2015. He then attempted to transition to pro baseball by joining several minor … [Read more...] about Fox Sports Host Calls Tim Tebow NFL Tryout ‘Ultimate White Privilege’

June 27, 2022 by www.breitbart.com Leave a Comment

Former NFL quarterback Alex Smith told fans Saturday that his daughter underwent brain surgery for a “very rare malignant tumor.” The 38-year-old former player revealed the terrifying event on Instagram, saying that his youngest daughter, Sloane, was diagnosed with a rare brain tumor in May. Fortunately, Smith noted that the doctors were able to excise “100% of the tumor.” “On May 10th, Sloane was rushed to the ER with stroke-like symptoms,” Smith wrote in his post. “She had an MRI and the doctors quickly informed us that she had a large brain tumor and needed an emergency craniotomy. … The incredible neurosurgeons @stanforchildrens did a miraculous job and were able to remove 100% of the tumor.” “Sloane — in her true form — bounced back from brain surgery like a rockstar! She didn’t skip a beat,” he added. “After weeks of waiting on pathology, we learned that Sloane’s tumor is a very rare malignant tumor with very few documented cases — without a clear road map for … [Read more...] about Ex-NFL QB Alex Smith Tells Fans of Daughter’s Brain Surgery for ‘Rare Malignant Tumor’

Netflix is bringing Cameron Diaz out of retirement for a new movie with Jamie Foxx

June 29, 2022 by www.theverge.com Leave a Comment

Cameron Diaz is set to star alongside Jamie Foxx in a new Netflix original film, officially ending Diaz’s retirement (which some of us at The Verge apparently never got the memo on). Foxx teased the new film, titled Back in Action , in a tweet containing an audio call between him, Diaz, and Tom Brady, whose retirement from football notably lasted a whole 40 days. In a press release , Netflix doesn’t reveal much about the upcoming film other than that it’s an action-comedy directed, produced, and written by Seth Gordon, the director behind Horrible Bosses . Beau Bauman of Central Intelligence will serve as a producer, and Neighbors’ Brendan O’Brien is helping out with the script. Netflix says the premise of the film will remain “under wraps” and that production will begin later this year. Diaz last appeared in the 2014 remake of Annie , in which Foxx also starred. The pair previously had roles in the 1999 sports drama Any Given Sunday . Cameron Diaz is officially … [Read more...] about Netflix is bringing Cameron Diaz out of retirement for a new movie with Jamie Foxx

Elon Musk’s ‘Teslas in Tunnels’ Las Vegas project is still happening, and here’s the first station

June 30, 2022 by www.theverge.com Leave a Comment

The first passenger station in the “Vegas Loop” network of vehicle tunnels that’s being built by Elon Musk’s Boring Company was revealed Thursday. The station is situated underneath Resorts World Las Vegas, the first in what is expected to be 55 stops along 29 miles of tunnels. The Boring Company already operates a small version of this “Teslas in Tunnels” system underneath the Las Vegas Convention Center, which opened in early 2021 and involves two 0.8-mile tunnels. Afterward, Musk’s startup proposed a massive citywide expansion that was eventually approved by Clark County officials last year. The system uses human-controlled Model X and Y vehicles to transport passengers, despite Musk’s previous statements about using sleds to carry cars through the tunnels. Dubbed the Vegas Loop, the system will allow passengers to hitch rides in Teslas to and from places like the hotel casinos on the Las Vegas Strip, the city’s new football stadium, the Las Vegas Convention Center, and … [Read more...] about Elon Musk’s ‘Teslas in Tunnels’ Las Vegas project is still happening, and here’s the first station
