The best Amazon Prime benefit is one you might not even know you have

· February 27, 2021 ·

When you boot up a new Amazon Kindle device, you'll be offered a short free trial to Amazon's literary subscription service Kindle Unlimited and, since it's free, it's likely you'll accept. Then you'll either renew, and continue to enjoy the service, or decide instead to buy your own books from here on. However, you may not realize if you're an Amazon Prime subscriber (as many, many people are) there's actually a secondary service that might be of use to you - Amazon Prime Reading. Amazon Prime Reading isn't exactly one of the company's flagship services, and it's certainly not as well-known as Prime Video, Prime Music or the Prime shopping benefits. But if you're an avid reader, of magazines or comic books as well as novels and poetry, it may be for you. These are the best Kindle devices So what is Amazon Prime Reading? Amazon Prime Reading is a repository of books, both new and old, popular and exclusive, fiction and non-fiction. There's also a collection of comic … [Read more...] about The best Amazon Prime benefit is one you might not even know you have

Apple Pay: The Real-World Test

· October 21, 2014 ·

It's finally here: Apple Pay arrived on Monday as part of iOS 8.1 , which turns the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus into mobile payment machines. Just install the update, add a credit card to Passbook, and you're good to start buying stuff with your iPhone. See also: How to Use Apple Pay: What You Need to Know At least that's the theory, but is it really that convenient? We decided to check out how Apple Pay works in the real world by adding cards from various banks and using it at a few retailers and services in New York City. The result: it's definitely more convenient than a credit card, but there's room for improvement. Getting started After downloading iOS 8.1 and launching Passbook , the option to enter a credit or debit card shows up prominently. Tap it, and you'll immediately be asked whether you want to connect the credit card associated with your Apple ID or enter a new one. However, once I connected a scanned card to Apple Pay, the option to add one from my … [Read more...] about Apple Pay: The Real-World Test

This iPhone and Samsung Galaxy camera comparison was not what I expected

· February 28, 2021 ·

The $829 (£799, AU$1,349) iPhone 12 has two rear cameras and Samsung's $800 (£769, AU$1,249) Galaxy S21 has three rear cameras. Are more cameras better? Or does a higher price mean better photos? To find out, I did a good old-fashioned camera shootout. The results surprised me. There aren't many people deciding between an iPhone 12 and Galaxy S21 based solely on their cameras. Maybe there is a small niche of professional photographers, like me, who'd use cameras to decide between a Galaxy S21 Ultra or an iPhone 12 Pro Max. But most people stick to what they know and if someone switches from iOS to Android or the other way around, cameras won't be the only deciding factor. Cut through the chatter Subscribe to CNET's Mobile newsletter for the latest phone news and reviews. With that acknowledgement of reality out of the way, let's take a look at these cameras. Despite a similar price, the Galaxy S21 and iPhone 12 represent two different approaches to phone … [Read more...] about This iPhone and Samsung Galaxy camera comparison was not what I expected

Aw man, this $1,100 fake paper bag is already sold out

· June 21, 2017 ·

Balenciaga is sure having fun this year. Fresh off the, er, success of its $2,145 fake IKEA tote bag , the fashion house has decided to peddle a fancy version of its own shopping bag. Except instead of paper, this bag made of calfskin and metal. And instead of "free with purchase so you can put your items in it," it's $1,100. Seems incredibly reasonable! SEE ALSO: Nordstrom is selling fake mud jeans for the unbelievably low price of $425 Here are a few reasons why someone might want to purchase a calfskin version of a paper bag. The first reason: You are very rich and want to post what you have done online. The second: You have misread the price and believe this bag to be $11. I can't think of anything else. Luckily, I don't have to, because this bag is already sold out. I assume the man below purchased all of them. Fashion: It's good! WATCH: The world's longest pizza is over a mile long … [Read more...] about Aw man, this $1,100 fake paper bag is already sold out

Microsoft finally confirms the next Windows 10 update won’t be anything exciting

· February 18, 2021 ·

Windows 10 ’s feature update for the first half of 2021 (known as 21H1) has finally been announced by Microsoft, with the software giant confirming that it will be a minor update, as has long been rumored . An official blog post by John Cable, VP of Windows Servicing and Delivery at Microsoft, noted that this was the first time an H1 update – one that arrives in the first half of the year – will be “delivered in an optimized way using servicing technology”. We solve 100 common Windows 10 problems How to speed up Windows 10 How to uninstall a Windows 10 update That’s fancy talk for the 21H1 update being an enablement package, or a minor update which is a tiny download and simply flicks a switch to turn on the small amount of changes and tweaks involved (content which has already been preloaded for recent Windows 10 versions). You’ll likely recall that this was the case with the most recent October 2020 Update ( 20H2 ). As Cable observes, it’s always been … [Read more...] about Microsoft finally confirms the next Windows 10 update won’t be anything exciting
