By Associated Press | PUBLISHED: May 6, 2019 at 3:47 pm | UPDATED: May 6, 2019 at 3:49 pm By GREGORY KATZ and MSTYSLAV CHERNOV WINDSOR, England (AP) — The improbable love story between an American actress and a British royal took the best of all possible turns Monday with the arrival of a healthy baby boy. The as-yet-unnamed baby arrived less than a year after Prince Harry wed Meghan Markle in a spectacular televised event on the grounds of Windsor Castle that was watched the world over. Meghan is now the Duchess of Sussex, but she still does things her own way: The couple bucked royal tradition by declining to say where the baby was born and opting not to come out to pose with the newborn just hours after the birth. Instead, an obviously overjoyed Harry emerged to tell the world — via its waiting TV cameras — that a baby had been born. It marked a moment the nation is likely to remember as a once-troubled boy undone by the death of his mother Princess Diana in 1997 … [Read more...] about Harry and Meghan love story takes new turn: a baby boy

Produced by Christopher Gidez On Aug. 28, 2017, police in upstate Corning, New York, were called to the home of Michele Neurauter. Police found the 46-year-old mother of three hanging from a rope -- an apparent suicide. But Police Chief Jeff Spaulding had doubts, calling a rope mark found on Michele's chin "unsettling." Michele's mother Jeanne Laundy thought she was murdered, and pointed fingers at Neurauter's ex-husband, even though he was more than 2,500 miles away on a job interview in California when Michele was found dead. "I'm thinking it's more than likely Lloyd killed her," Jeanne Laundy told "48 Hours" correspondent Erin Moriarty. Lloyd Neurauter was Michele's ex-husband. For five years, the couple had been embroiled in bitter custody battles. Michele accused Lloyd of turning their daughters against her. On the day police found Michele, the couple's 19-year-old middle daughter, Karrie, at college in Rochester, told investigators that over the weekend, her father helped her … [Read more...] about “I had to choose”: Did a father brainwash his daughter to help kill her mother?
Are the histories of technology and art one and the same? In truth, they overlap more than you might think. Take three of the most famous works of art ever to imprint themselves on the popular imagination: The Scream by Edvard Munch, American Gothic by Grant Wood, and The Kiss by Gustav Klimt. At first glance these revered masterpieces may seem at furthest possible remove from the concerns of scientific discovery. Look closer and each is in fact hardwired with a previously overlooked detail that, once spotted, transforms these iconic images into profound meditations on the technological advances of the generations that conceived them. In my new book A New Way of Seeing: The History of Art in 57 Works, I investigate how The Scream, The Kiss, and American Gothic—arguably the most famous works of art ever to issue from the countries in which they were created—pulse with intense anxieties about electricity, hematology, and astronomy. The broader aim of my new study is to … [Read more...] about How Science and Tech Left an Imprint on 3 Iconic Paintings
