Nicaragua Convicts Catholic Priest of ‘Conspiracy,’ ‘Fake News’

January 18, 2023 by www.breitbart.com Leave a Comment

The dictatorship of President Daniel Ortega has found Nicaraguan parish priest Óscar Benavidez guilty of “conspiracy to undermine national security” and “spreading fake news,” with a requested sentence of 8 years in prison. Father Benavidez, who was “removed from his vehicle and taken by patrol car to an unknown destination” in August 2022, was later known to be incarcerated in the infamous El Chipote prison, where torture is regularly used on critics of the Ortega regime. The priest was arrested just days before Bishop Rolando Alvarez of Matagalpa suffered a similar fate together with eight others, including five priests. Bishop Álvarez was finally charged formally in December after months in jail, accused of the identical crimes of “conspiracy to undermine the integrity of the nation” and “spreading false news.” Benavidez’ diocese of Siuna requested prayers for the priest, whose “sole mission is and has been to announce the good news of Jesus Christ, who is the word of … [Read more...] about Nicaragua Convicts Catholic Priest of ‘Conspiracy,’ ‘Fake News’

Nolte: Aretha Franklin Hit ‘Natural Woman’ Decried by Fake Transgender Activists

January 23, 2023 by www.breitbart.com Leave a Comment

Correction: Following the publication of this piece, the Trans Cultural Mindfulness Alliance group claimed their original post criticizing Aretha Franklin’s “Natural Woman” as anti-transgender was “satirical.” The Trans Cultural Mindfulness Alliance’s Twitter bio has been updated to say “PARODY/SATIRE.” Our story has been updated accordingly. The story continues below. Members of the transsexual movement want Aretha Franklin’s 1968 hit “Natural Woman” banned. Standing for Women Founder Kellie-Jay Keen told Australia’s Sky News it’s “really hard” to ignore the “misogyny” of the trans-rights movement when Aretha’s classic song is attacked as offensive to trans-women. This might surprise some of you but I actually see where the trans-women (fake or not) are coming from here. If I were a man pretending to be a woman, I would also find the term “natural woman” offensive. Imagine you’re one of these mentally-damaged crossdressers, okay? You’re standing there with a … [Read more...] about Nolte: Aretha Franklin Hit ‘Natural Woman’ Decried by Fake Transgender Activists

social media: Govt considers banning news identified as ‘fake’ on social media

January 18, 2023 by www.gadgetsnow.com Leave a Comment

The government will not permit social media platforms to host any information that it identifies as false, according to a draft proposal of the country's IT rules released this week. This is the latest in a slew of measures by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government that are being seen as efforts to rein in big tech firms. Any information identified as "fake or false" by the Press Information Bureau (PIB), or by any other agency authorised for fact-checking by the government or "by its department in which such business is transacted", would be prohibited under the draft.

Twitter is working on showing you whether an account is ID verified pic.twitter.com/t8Qo5uT0B9 February 1, 2023 See more Wie du siehst, werden die Informationen neben dem blauen Häkchen angezeigt, das in letzter Zeit sehr umstritten war, wie du sicher bemerkt hast. Wong erklärt den Prozess der ID-Verifizierung weiter : "Es wird einen Ablauf geben, bei dem du deinen Personalausweis und ein Selfie hochladen kannst, um deine Identität zu bestätigen. Trump tries to get back on Facebook, claims ban is electoral “interference”

January 18, 2023 by arstechnica.com Leave a Comment

Former US President Donald Trump yesterday petitioned Facebook owner Meta to restore his account, two years after he was banned for egging on his supporters as they attacked the US Capitol. "We believe that the ban on President Trump's account on Facebook has dramatically distorted and inhibited the public discourse," Trump's campaign wrote in a letter to Meta Tuesday, according to NBC News . The Trump team's letter also reportedly said that a continuation of the ban would constitute a "deliberate effort by a private company to silence Mr. Trump's political voice... every day that President Trump's political voice remains silenced furthers an inappropriate interference in the American political and election process." The letter was sent to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Meta VP of Global Affairs Nick Clegg, and Facebook VP of Public Policy Joel Kaplan. Twitter already reversed its ban on Trump shortly after Elon Musk bought the company. Trump hasn't tweeted yet. He formed his own … [Read more...] about Trump tries to get back on Facebook, claims ban is electoral “interference”

Meta said it’s suing “scraping-for-hire” service Voyager Labs for allegedly using fake accounts, proprietary software, and a sprawling network of IP addresses to surreptitiously collect massive amounts of personal data from users of Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and other social networking sites. “Defendant created and used over 38,000 fake Facebook user accounts and its Surveillance Software to scrape more than 600,000 Facebook users’ viewable profile information, including posts, likes, friends lists, photos, and comments, and information from Facebook Groups and Pages,” lawyers wrote in Meta’s complaint . “Defendant designed the Surveillance Software to conceal its presence and activity from Meta and others, and sold and licensed for profit the data it scraped.” “Bringing individuality to light” Among the California-based Facebook users to have their data scraped, Meta said, were “employees of nonprofit organizations, universities, news media organizations, health care … [Read more...] about Meta sues “scraping-for-hire” service that sells user data to law enforcement

Massive nursing degree scheme leads to hunt for 2,800 fraudulent nurses

February 1, 2023 by arstechnica.com Leave a Comment

More than 2,800 people may be working as nurses under false pretenses after allegedly buying a fake diploma for between $10,000 and $15,000 from a massive Florida-based scheme recently busted by federal investigators. State and federal authorities are now working to track down the alleged fraudulent nurses, and in some cases, immediately annulling their licenses. Last week, the Department of Justice announced charges against 25 people in five states connected to the alleged scheme . The investigation, code-named Operation Nightingale, found evidence that the 25 defendants worked to sell more than 7,600 fake diplomas, along with transcripts, between 2016 and 2021, making over $100 million in the process. The fraudulent diplomas and transcripts were allegedly issued from three accredited Florida-based nursing schools: Siena College and Sacred Heart International Institute in Broward County and Palm Beach School of Nursing in Palm Beach County. The three schools are now closed and … [Read more...] about Massive nursing degree scheme leads to hunt for 2,800 fraudulent nurses

Reviewer buys 16TB portable SSD for $70, proves it’s a sham

January 17, 2023 by arstechnica.com Leave a Comment

Amazon won't deny that fraudulent reviews on its platform are a problem. And despite years of reports of fake storage products, listed with falsified reviews to cover up fake specs and performance claims, the scams keep coming. On Monday, Review Geek detailed its purchase of what an Amazon listing claimed was a 16TB portable M.2 SSD for $70. The drive, like similar Amazon listings, had dozens of five-star reviews. Yet, the cheap SSD turned out to just be a 64GB microSD in a circuit board with a USB-C connector. This is all despite the drive showing as 16TB storage on Windows, which Review Geek suspects is due to deceptive circuit board firmware. The listing and box weren't even honest about its connectivity, claiming USB 3.0 Micro B to USB 3.1 Type-C. The device really relies on USB 2.0, Review Geek determined after testing the product with ChipGenius , an app for examining USB devices. Moving 1GB of data with the SSD microSD card reportedly took 20 minutes instead of the … [Read more...] about Reviewer buys 16TB portable SSD for $70, proves it’s a sham
