Does your phone last all day on a single charge? How about a year from now? Battery anxiety is real, and if you're contemplating a new phone like the Motorola Razr , Samsung Galaxy Note 20 or the upcoming iPhone 12 , its battery life is an increasingly important factor in deciding if that device is worth the money. As we expect more from our phones -- and want them to last longer -- the importance of an all-day charge has become a critical feature, alongside screen size and camera quality. The enduring emphasis on battery life is one reason why fast chargers are now so ubiquitous, at least for high-end devices. The fastest, most power-delivering of all belong to premium phones like the Galaxy S20 and iPhone 11 . If the battery threatens to drain before the end of the day, quickly recharging it with your lightning-fast quick charger is the next best thing. With fast charging especially, a 10-minute charge can make the difference between going into an … [Read more...] about Does fast charging affect battery life? 6 phone battery questions, answered

Google's new phones, the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro , are set to launch today (here's how you can watch the Pixel event live ). And although we got a glimpse of the new phone right before the Pixel 5A launched, not every rumor has yet been debunked or proven true. We've heard buzz about the new Pixel ahead of today's Google's event, including better on-device security, updated camera features and the new in-house chip, named Tensor. According to the Japanese publication Nikkei , Google has ordered more than 7 million Pixel 6 phones, which roughly doubles the company's production in 2020. Google CEO Sundar Pichai previously said during an Alphabet earnings call that the fall device lineup will show Google's " deep technology investments ." The company has since confirmed the Pixel 6 line will be powered by the company's in-house Tensor chip, previously code-named Whitechapel . The Tensor chip's introduction also came with demonstrations of its photography and … [Read more...] about Google Pixel 6: Camera specs, in-house chip and all the other rumors ahead of today’s event
Home / Opinions / Wearables AndRoided Out AC's fitness freaks dish on the favorite tech that keeps them fit and happy. Michael L Hicks 14 Oct 2021 2 Source: Michael Hicks / Android Central When it comes to the best fitness trackers or fitness-themed smartwatches , we'll test each watch for a couple of weeks to get a clear sense of how they work. But then we'll move on to the following review, and that watch will get shoved in a bin with other tech or shipped back to the company. Even if a watch or its fitness app impresses us, that doesn't always mean we'll keep using it. As part of my marathon training , I surveyed my colleagues on the fitness tech they use to stay fit. I've reviewed a couple of cheap fitness bands, but my colleagues have spent years testing the best (and worst) offerings from Garmin, Samsung, Apple, Fitbit, TicWatch, and so many other brands. With a wealth of free review units to choose from, … [Read more...] about What fitness tech and apps do the Android Central staff actually use?
Pack your shades, your sunscreen and your coziest tinfoil hat, because the late-summer event of the season is happening in Nevada's scenic Area 51 , and you're invited. According to a tongue-in-cheek Facebook event called "Storm Area 51, They Can't Stop All of Us," a ragtag army of alien hunters will meet up near the top-secret Air Force base in the predawn hours of Sept. 20, coordinate a plan of attack, then raid the grounds in search of captive aliens. Per the event's hosts (a page that posts memes and a guy who streams video games on Twitch), the delicate operation will involve running supernaturally fast — faster than the guards' bullets can fly — but will be worth it to " see them aliens ." So far, nearly 200,000 Facebook users have signed up to attend, with another 200,000 "interested" in the affair. [ 15 Far-Out Facts About Area 51 ] This event is, of course, a joke (please, do not raid this or any other military base). Area 51 — a massive plot of desert about 80 … [Read more...] about Nearly 200K People Have Signed Up to Steal Alien Secrets from Area 51 in Late-Summer Raid

Recently, I faced a dilemma: My Google Pixel 3 XL was on its last legs. Its battery was a pale shadow of its former self. Its USB-C port failed to carry a charge half the time. Both sides of the phone, screen and glass back, were a spiderwebbed mess of cracks and chips. And according to Google , the phone won't be guaranteed more Android updates after this October. I needed a new phone, pronto. I know the new Pixel 6 is likely to arrive at Google's next launch event on Oct. 19 (here are how to watch the launch live and all the rumors we've heard about Google's next Pixel ). However, I didn't really want to wait. And even as we get closer to the event, there's always the price aspect that draws people to older models. At first glance my options looked straightforward. Long ago, I'd thrown in my lot with Google's pure Android platform back in the days of the Nexus 5 . Since then I've moved on to the original Pixel XL and the Pixel 3 XL . So the … [Read more...] about With Pixel 6 coming soon, is it still worth buying a Pixel 3, 4 or 5?
Home / Opinions / Games The thrilling conclusion! This time around, you'll be chased by more than just raptors. Nicholas Sutrich 18 Oct 2021 0 Source: Nick Sutrich / Android Central At the very tail-end of 2020, Oculus Studios released one of my favorite VR games of the year, Jurassic World Aftermath . While the game wasn't without its faults, it was one of the strongest examples of a game that makes the most sense in VR. After all, hiding from dinosaurs — just raptors in the first game — is absolutely terrifying and wouldn't give you that sense of terror without being in the world. Nine months later, developer Coatsink delivered Jurassic World Aftermath Part 2, the direct follow-up to the cliffhanger ending of the first part. Instead of being a free addition, Coatsink is charging $15 for the game — a $10 price reduction over part 1 — much to the chagrin of some players who didn't notice the buy button for the expansion … [Read more...] about Jurassic World Aftermath Part 2 review: More dinos, more terror, more money
